The Opportunity:

West Liberty University is seeking applications for a full time, tenure track, Theater faculty member with expertise in Design and Technical Theater.  The position is a 4/4 teaching load. Faculty are expected to advise and mentor undergraduate students, perform professional activities as well as provide service to department, college, and university in support of the overall mission. This position is for a 9-month, full-time faculty position.

The successful applicant will join an established theater program known for quality productions and cultivation of student talent on and off the stage. the West Liberty University Theater Program is located in the Department of Music & Theater. The WLU "Hilltop Players" produce a varied season of three to four shows each academic year. 

Essential Functions of the position:

• Teach Theater courses in area(s) of expertise.


• Serve as Design & Technical Manager (DMT) for WLU Theater productions. 


• Supervise student workers in the Theater


• Work with program development while maintaining flexibility and collaboration with administration and other programs.


• Actively Recruit for the Theater program and participate in Retention efforts. 


• Participate in student, program and University assessment efforts. 


• Remain active as a theater professional and seek scholarly/artistic activity.


• Participate in department, college, and university faculty meetings, as well as committees, convocations, commencement activities and faculty workshops. 


• Complete all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Department Chair, Dean and Provost. 

Education & Experience Requirements: 

• Terminal Degree preferred; master's degree required.
  


• Minimum of three (3) years of experience in technical theater design, building and/or technical direction. 


• Organizational skills essential for supervising theater student employees and all productional related activities

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

• Uses common hand tools, such as hammer, saw, screwdriver, and other standard theatrical shop tools, including mechanical saws and powered shop equipment. 


• Operates a variety of standard office equipment to maintain weighing up to 100 pounds for distances of up to 100 feet, using proper equipment and/or a cart or other aid to assist. 


• Works at elevated levels at heights up to 100 feet. Installs, alters, maintains, and repairs wiring and appliances related to sound systems, lighting, or powered stage machinery as directed by supervisor.

Anticipated Faculty Appointment Date: August 2025

A faculty member is expected to participate in continuous improvement in the areas of teaching, professional development, and service to the University and community.  Salary will be commensurate with experience.
