Job Description - Family Finding Supervisor


Position:                      Family Finding Supervisor            
Classification:             Full-time, Exempt      
Reports to:                  Manager, Permanency
Location:                     Houston, TX

Position Description:
The Family Finding Supervisor provides leadership, oversight, and support to a team of Family Finding Specialists dedicated to locating, engaging, and sustaining lifelong connections for children and youth in care. This role ensures high-quality practice, compliance with policy, and alignment with permanency goals. The Supervisor collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to promote family-centered approaches and improve outcomes for children.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Supervise and support Family Finding Specialists in their efforts to identify and engage relatives and fictive kin.
  • Provide regular coaching, feedback, and performance evaluations to ensure staff effectiveness and professional growth.
  • Monitor caseloads and ensure equitable distribution of work across the team.
  • Facilitate team meetings to share best practices, address challenges, and promote collaboration.
  • Review/approve documentation in IMPACT and COBRIS other systems to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Ensure timely and thorough family finding efforts are conducted for each child.
  • Track and analyze data related to family engagement, placement outcomes, and program effectiveness.
  • Prepare reports for leadership and contribute to strategic planning and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Assist with kinship referrals to the provider network to make sure families are moving through the network. 
  • Hold quarterly staffings with DFPS to ensure that families are referred and moved to verification.
  • Serve as a liaison between Family Finding staff and CPS caseworkers, placement support/child watch staff, kinship programs, and legal teams.
  • Coordinate and facilitate pre-placement and placement disruption staffings, ensuring youth voice and family input are prioritized.
  • Advocate for family-centered practices and educate stakeholders on the importance of lifelong connections.
  • Develop/deliver training for staff, foster parents, and community partners on family finding principles and tools.
  • Stay current on best practices, tools, and policies related to family engagement and permanency planning.
  • Ensure that staff consistently engage youth in identifying important connections and honoring their preferences.
  • Promote trauma-informed and culturally responsive approaches to family engagement.
  • Support staff in navigating complex family dynamics and making decisions in the child’s best interest.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in social work, human services, psychology, or related field.
  • Minimum three (3) years’ experience in child welfare, family engagement, kinship care, or permanency planning.
  • Minimum two (2) years’ supervisory or leadership experience in a social services setting.
  • Demonstrated experience with family finding tools, trauma-informed care, and culturally responsive practices.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Strong understanding of child welfare systems, kinship care policies, and permanency planning strategies.
  • Proficiency in using databases, case management systems (e.g., IMPACT), and digital tools for family search and documentation.
  • Ability to interpret and apply relevant laws, regulations, and agency policies.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Skilled in coaching, mentoring, and developing staff.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to elevating youth voice and advocating for family-centered practices.
  • Ability to travel locally for meetings, staffings, and family engagement activities.
Work Conditions:
  • Environment: Office
  • Range of Schedule:  Mon – Fri, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm
  • Travel: Occasional – Local and Statewide (Must have reliable personal transportation, valid Texas Driver License and current Auto Insurance.
