Job Title: Family Life Assistant Director

Reports To: Family Life Pastor
Position Type: Part-Time (15 hours per week)
Compensation: $15,600 annually (Semi-Monthly Pay) Part-Time, Non-Exempt

Position Summary

The Family Life Assistant Director supports the planning, preparation, organization, and execution of Rock Harbor Church’s children’s ministry programs (nursery through 3rd grade). This role helps create safe, engaging, and Christ-centered environments where children can grow in their faith and families feel supported and connected.

This position requires strong organizational skills, initiative, teamwork, flexibility, and a heart for ministry to children and families.

Key Responsibilities

Sunday Morning Leadership

  • Be a welcoming face for families during check-in and help connect with new families during one service.
  • Serve as the point person for nursery through 3rd grade during Sunday worship.
  • Oversee classroom readiness and ensure all rooms are properly set up and supplied.
  • Float between classrooms during both services to ensure:
    • Child safety and adherence to safety protocols
    • Volunteer support and coverage
    • Immediate response to any needs or concerns
  • Assist with classroom management and step in to teach as needed.
  • Coordinate set-up and tear-down of all kids ministry rooms.

Weekly Ministry Planning & Preparation

  • Plan and organize weekly children’s ministry programming (ages 3 through 3rd grade).
  • Prepare teaching materials, crafts, curriculum resources, and supplies.
  • Ensure all lessons are biblically sound and aligned with church vision.
  • Organize and maintain closets, supplies, and RKidz materials.
  • Support additional ministry projects as needed.
  • Attend staff meetings every 2nd and 4th Tuesday, when available. Attendance is not mandatory.
  • Participate in a weekly check-in meeting with the Family Life Pastor.

Special Events & Ministry Support

  • Assist with the planning, preparation, setup, execution, and cleanup of RKidz and Family Life special events and seasonal programs.
  • Help recruit and coordinate volunteers for special events as needed.
  • Assist with event communication, supplies, decorations, activities, and other logistical needs.
  • Provide additional support for Family Life ministry initiatives and events as requested.
  • Be flexible and willing to assist with other reasonable ministry responsibilities that arise based on the needs of the church and Family Life Ministry.

Volunteer Coordination

  • Build positive, consistent relationships and maintain regular communication with RKidz volunteers.
  • Work closely with volunteers to understand their needs, provide encouragement, and help them feel equipped and supported in their ministry roles.
  • Communicate clearly with volunteers regarding assignments, schedules, expectations, and ministry needs.
  • Assist with volunteer onboarding and basic training.
  • Support and encourage volunteer teams through regular contact and collaboration.
  • Fill volunteer needs when a volunteer declines or needs to cancel on a Sunday.
  • Help identify opportunities to recruit, develop, and retain volunteers.

Administrative Support

  • Send monthly newsletters for 3rd grade and younger.
  • Manage supply inventories and order materials.
  • Collaborate with the Family Life Pastor to evaluate programs and implement improvements.

Qualifications

  • A growing and active personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • Alignment with Rock Harbor Church’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Heart for children and family ministry.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to lead volunteers with grace and clarity.
  • Successful completion of background check and child safety requirements.

Work Expectations

  • Average of 15 hours per week.
  • Sunday morning attendance is required.
  • Mid-week preparation hours are required.
  • Flexibility during seasonal events and high ministry seasons.
  • Because ministry needs and special events may occasionally require additional hours beyond the average 15 hours per week, any hours worked beyond the average weekly schedule will be compensated in accordance with applicable wage ($20 hour)
  • The Family Life Assistant Director should communicate with the Family Life Pastor regarding anticipated additional hours whenever possible.
