Job Description - Family Medicine Physician

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Compensation salary: $263,764 -$292,527 based on years of experience, with additional productivity bonus based on wRVUs, and quality incentives.

Schedule and Work-Life Balance:

  • Schedule: Monday–Friday schedule, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM with no call responsibilities.
  • Generous Time Off: 33 days (264 hours) annually, including holidays, and 10 additional days of CME.

Practice Details:

  • Clinic facilities: 11 exam spaces with one procedure rooms. One medical assistant per physician, dedicated Primary Care nurse case manager, and nurse triage. Ancillary services include Mammogram, CT, DEXA, Ultrasound including ECHO, X‑ray, laboratory services, and MRI.
  • Patient Volume: 12-14 pediatric patients per day in clinic, plus 4 hours of administrative time weekly. EMR and tools include Meditech, Dragon Dictation, and DAX AI assisted documentation.
  • Procedure opportunities: Women’s health, prenatal, vasectomies, colposcopies, circumcisions, wound care, draining abscesses, and cyst removal.
  • Hospital Capabilities: Attached to Wrangell Medical Center a Critical Access Hospital with a 24/7 emergency department.

Additional Care Opportunities:

  • Occasional long-term care and home visits.
  • Optional involvement in rural outreach or consultative support.

Qualifications:

  • New graduates encouraged to apply.
  • MD or DO with an Alaska medical license (or ability to obtain)
  • Board-certified or board-eligible in Family Medicine
  • Active DEA registration
  • BLS certification required

  • Location: Wrangell Island is a community of approximately 1,800 residents with a welcoming, family-friendly atmosphere. Surrounded by world-class outdoor recreation, including fishing, hiking, boating, and wildlife viewing.
  • Education: Wrangell is served by a small, community-centered public school system with three schools (elementary, middle, and high school) educating roughly 260–270 students, offering small class sizes and strong access to individualized learning, extracurriculars, and early college credit opportunities.

Key Essential Functions and Accountabilities of the Job

  • Provides comprehensive primary care including but not limited to diagnosis, treatment, minor procedures, coordination of care, referral, preventive care, prenatal care, and health maintenance to a dedicated panel of patients.
  • Maintains accurate and timely documentation of services in accordance with SEARHC policy.
  • Provides optimal patient experience using strong listening and communication skills that build long term patient care relationships.
  • Actively participates in SEARHC quality patient care initiatives and quality assurance programs.
  • Actively participates in provider and clinic meetings, and SEARHC medical staff functions.
  • At times the Physician may be directed to provide services outside of the clinic to meet the patient’s needs, e.g., local long­term care center, Pioneer Home, patient’s home, and local schools

Knowledge of

  • Well versed in the principles and practices of primary care
  • Is aware of standards of care, EMTALA, HIPAA, health care risk management principles, medical ethics, and medical malpractice principles.

Skills in

  • Communicating in an open, respectful, helpful, supportive, and collaborative manner with staff and patients.

Ability to

  • Provide high quality health care services including the performance of medical procedures appropriate to the outpatient and emergency care setting.
  • Provide clinical leadership, promotes teamwork and collaboration, provides clinical guidance as requested for midlevel providers, and resolves conflict.
  • Efficiently utilize the electronic medical record and other clinically required technology.
  • Express ideas clearly through oral and written communication skills, analyze complex situations efficiently and problem solve, and effectively implement clinical program strategies.
