Job Description - Family Peer Support Specialist - Coos/Carroll/Grafton counties

NAMI New Hampshire is seeking a dedicated Family Peer Support Specialist to join our team in Coös, Carroll, and Grafton Counties. In this role, you’ll use your lived experience to empower families navigating mental health challenges, offering hope, understanding, and practical guidance. Job Summary 


The Family Peer Support Specialist (FPSS) provides 1:1 support and education to families/primary caregivers of children and adolescents with Serious Emotional Disturbances (SED) in family's homes/virtually, or in the community.  The FPSS is responsible for identifying and recruiting family member candidates to participate in one of NAMI NH’s leadership training programs providing support to the family leaders in a role of their choice.  Ultimately, success will be determined by how NAMI NH can reduce or eliminate stigma and end discrimination regarding mental health for all individuals and their families.


 


Job Duties and Responsibilities



  • Provide one-to-one support to families/primary caregivers of children and/or adolescents with Serious Emotional Disturbance (SED).

  • Promote parent participation in NAMI Basics and Parent Support Groups.

  • Demonstrate commitment to the system of care values and guiding principles.

  • Identify, recruit family leadership candidates, and provide training/orientation and support to family leaders in a role of their choice.

  • Work to eliminate stigma and end discrimination regarding mental health for all individuals and their families.

  • Execute all tasks required to meet contractual agreements with funders.

  • Participate in program team and supervisory meetings and seek consultation when needed from a supervisor.

  • Collect and organize all data related to the position.

  • Demonstrate effective outreach and promotion of NAMI NH’s support, education, and leadership programs and our public policy platform.

  • Attend community events/meetings as assigned.

  • Work collaboratively with all customers, consumers, NAMI NH staff, families, agencies, and other organizational staff in a productive and considerate manner.

  • It may be necessary to work some evenings and weekends.

  • While performing the duties of this job, it is regularly required to talk or hear, along with frequently standing, walking, using hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reaching with hands and arms.

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Occasional travel may be necessary.


 


Qualifications, Skills, and Knowledge 



  • Lived Experience – having a personal experience as a primary caregiver of a child with SED, and understanding the experience of working towards family recovery empowerment.

  • Knowledge of community resources and experience navigating mental health and related systems of care.

  • Three years of work experience in the human service or mental health field, providing direct service.

  • Demonstrated writing, public speaking, training, and organizational skills.

  • Maintain available, reliable transportation and willingness to travel and have a flexible schedule.

  • Above average proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite of products and virtual meeting software.

  • Ability to develop, track, transfer, and access information related to work through navigating different cloud-based systems as directed.
