Family Programs Coordinator

The Greater Burlington YMCA is seeking a highly motivated Family Programs Coordinator to join our Youth and Family Programs team. This full-time role is responsible for the coordination, supervision, and ongoing development of Member Child Care (MCC), Teen Programs, and Birthday Parties. The Coordinator leads day-to-day operations, staff hiring and training, and direct service delivery, ensuring that all offerings are inclusive, safe, and mission-aligned. Working closely with the Assistant Director of Family Programs, this position also supports broader family programming and helps deliver high-quality, engaging youth experiences.

Schedule and Location

This is a full-time (40 hours/week) position located at our 298 College Street facility in downtown Burlington, Vermont.

• September through June: Required schedule is Wednesday through Sunday, to ensure coverage of weekend programs like birthday parties and family events.
• Summer (June through August): Shifts transition to Monday through Friday to oversee our in-house summer camp program.

What You’ll Do

• Oversee Member Child Care (MCC):
  Manage day-to-day operations, staff scheduling, and family communication. Hire, train, and support MCC staff, while maintaining compliance with policies and procedures. Serve in direct service within MCC at least 15 hours per week.
• Lead Teen Programs:
  Conduct Teen Wellness Orientations, develop teen programming, maintain program data in Daxko, and foster a welcoming and supportive environment. Provide consistent presence during teen events and clubs.
• Coordinate Family Programming & Events:
  Serve as Camp Director for school vacation and summer camps, oversee birthday parties and assist with programs such as Kids Night Out, Sunday Family Rec, and Middle School Strength Training. Provide a minimum of 5 hours of direct service per week.
• Support Administration and Collaboration:
  Work closely with the Assistant Director of Family Programs on weekly planning, staffing needs, and payroll. Contribute to new program ideas, cross-department collaboration, and event support (e.g., KidsFest).
• Provide Leadership and Supervision:
  Create a positive and inclusive environment for children, teens, families, and staff. Step in to support programs during peak times or staff absences. Maintain clear communication with all stakeholders.

 Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications to be eligible for the starting rate of $18.00/hour. Additional compensation is determined based on experience and education aligned with the preferred qualifications. 

Minimum Qualifications:

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• At least 1 year of experience working with children or teens in a structured setting.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience supervising others or leading a team.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Education, Recreation, Human Services, or related field.
• Experience working with children in an educational, recreational, or programmatic setting, with milestones recognized at 2,5,10,15+ years
•  Prior experience managing and growing childcare, teen programs, or summer camps.
• 2 years experience leading a team or supervising staff. 
• Completion of DEI-specific training, coursework, or certification, with a minimum of 40 hours or the equivalent of a college course.
• Familiarity with YMCA platforms (e.g., Daxko, ZoomShift, Paylocity) or similar tools
• 3 college credits in behavioral intervention, special education, or child development.
• 2+ years of direct experience in special education or behavioral intervention.

• Ability to effectively supervise and ensure the safety of children by maintaining visual and auditory awareness in various environments, including classrooms, outdoor play areas, and other program spaces.

• Ability to engage in active participation in all aspects of the program, including assisting with activities such as swim and gym. This may involve frequent movement, such as kneeling, bending, stooping, crouching, reaching, and standing for extended periods.
• Ability to respond quickly and appropriately to the physical and emotional needs of children, including in emergency situations.
• Staff in this role should expect to receive training, as needed, in basic medical support and physical assistance procedures to help ensure that all children can participate safely and fully. This may include but is not limited to tasks such as assisting a child who uses a wheelchair, helping manage medical needs like diabetes, or administering emergency medications as trained.
