Job Description - Family Support Counselor

Job Summary:


Under the direct supervision of the assigned Supervisor, the Family Support Counselor has responsibility for providing support services to individuals and families as identified in the designated program and/or individualized plan. Services apply to youth in 24-hour residential treatment and/or consumer/clients in community-based programs.


Family support counselors will work within the child welfare system and specific programs (Parent Counseling, Early intervention preventions services (EIP), Parent Education, and Supporting our families through transition services (SOFTT).  These programs will require staff to do the following:


Essential Functions:



  1. Assist in prevention strategies for reoccurrence of maltreatment.

  2. Assist with skills and case management for families in the reunification process to family maintenance

  3. Case management- including housing management, participation in CFTs, differential response in family's home or other community locations

  4. Providing parent education and support groups

  5. Provides individual and family support services in accordance with the individualized plans. Services may include: providing referrals, advocacy and support to individuals and families (clients), linkage and case management services, support groups, educational services and support, transportation, home management assistance, recreational activities, and behavioral interventions and management, etc.

  6. Able to effectively engage and develop relationships with appropriate boundaries with assigned clients.

  7. Effectively manages a flexible community based schedule.

  8. Completes all required documentation according to Agency and program standards within required time constraints. These may include: client contact forms, CANS, service activity summaries, data tracking, daily progress notes for all mental health services provided, mileage documentation, and other administrative duties, etc.

  9. Is an active member of assigned treatment teams. Assumes assigned responsibility within the team in accordance to program needs which may include operating effectively within a Teaming Model and act as a liaison with other community agencies and resources.

  10. Meets Agency service percentage standard reflecting expected time spent with clients, if applicable.

  11. Completes other assigned program operational tasks in accordance with supervisory directives.


Minimum Required Education and Experience: 



  1. Must possess a high school diploma/GED. No previous experience required. 

  2. Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred.


Position/Program Requirements: 



  1. Must possess a reliable mode of transportation to travel to assigned client homes, schools, offices, etc.  If personal vehicle is the mode of transportation, must meet Agency’s driving requirements.

  2. Must be physically and mentally fit in accordance with the Agency's Personnel Policy: Physical Fitness Standards and Examinations. Must be willing to complete a Tuberculosis (TB) and drug screening test.

  3. Must be willing to complete a personal background investigation conducted by the State of California.


Salary:



  • Pay Range: $21.51/hr - $29.58/hr (actual salary is dependent on verification of applicable experience above the minimum qualifications for the role)

  • Additional $1.00 - $3.00 per hour for Education   

  • Additional $1.92 per hour for Bilingual in Spanish
