Job Description - Fashion Designer - Immediate Start

Are you an experienced designer with a keen understanding of the luxury fashion market? We are seeking a talented individual with at least 6 years of experience to join a dynamic team. The ideal candidate will be well-versed in current trends, consumer preferences, and possess a passion for creating exceptional designs.
Summary of responsibilities:
Colorist:
  • Prepare seasonal color stories
  • Present color standards to be sent to mills
  • Make color comments and approvals for bulk
Prints:
  • Present original prints to customers for purchase
  • Arrange and approve print repeats
  • Pitch colors in prints when recoloring
  • Prepare strike-off requests
Fabrics:
  • Conduct all textiles research at N.Y. Textile Shows and Agents offices
  • Request headers for review with customers
  • Handle sample fabrics and factory destination
Yarns:
  • Conduct all yarn research for knitwear
  • Request yarn cards for review with client
  • Arrange sample yarn with knitwear factories
Trims-Button and Braids
  • Conduct research with vendors and present to client
  • Choose all trims for production in conjunction with client
Design
  • Design all woven and knitwear
  • Present research and sketches for client to review
  • Assign #’s to all chosen styles and create style library
  • Prepare tech packs with sketch, measurements, and fabric information and factory.
  • Notify factories of developments being sent
  • Create and maintain line plans and update with fabric information and style information as collection evolves
  • Track estimated delivery dates from factories of protos they are developing
Fitting
  • Review protos with client and decide which styles to proceed with
  • Pass protos and tech racks to production technical designers for measuring prior to fitting
  • Schedule fitting-typically a 2-hour fitting once a week
  • Rotate fitting of garments based on delivery cycle
  • Meet weekly with production Technical Designers to oversee status of all styles
  • Answer daily questions from factories concerning protos and production
Review & Evaluation
  • Advise factories with photos and details of any production/quality fit issues
  • Advise of possible solutions and charge backs if necessary
Summary of Qualifications:
  • Education: A degree in fashion design or a related field is often required. This could be a bachelor/master's degree in fashion design, textile design, or a similar area of study.
  • Design Skills: Strong design skills, including a keen eye for color, shape, and texture, as well as proficiency in sketching and using design software such as Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop.
  • Knowledge of Textiles and Materials: Understanding of different fabrics, materials, and textiles, as well as their properties and how they can be used in garment design.
  • Trend Awareness: Awareness of current fashion trends and the ability to forecast future trends in the fashion industry.
  • Technical Proficiency: Knowledge of garment construction, pattern making, and draping, as well as an understanding of manufacturing processes and techniques.
  • Creativity and Innovation: Ability to generate original and creative design concepts, as well as the capacity to innovate and push boundaries in fashion design.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with other team members, such as pattern makers, sample makers, and production teams.
  • Portfolio: A strong portfolio showcasing a range of original designs and completed projects that demonstrate the designer's skills and creativity.
  • Industry Experience: Previous experience working in the fashion industry is a must.
  • Adaptability and Resilience: Ability to work in a fast-paced, ever-changing industry, and the resilience to handle the pressures and demands of the fashion design field.
