William & Mary’s Advising Center supports students’ academic accomplishments across the undergraduate experience from matriculation to postgraduate fellowships. We seek a Fellowship Advisor to join our team of professional academic advisors. The Fellowship Advisor will support undergraduates and recent alums through the application and selection process for nationally competitive fellowships in collaboration with the Associate Director of Fellowships. This role combines advising, recruitment, communications, and partnership-building across academic departments, student organizations, and alumni networks. The successful candidate will also contribute to strategic initiatives that strengthen the university’s national fellowship program.Job Description:
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in higher education, an Arts & Sciences discipline, or related fields.
Experience with fellowship or academic advising in higher education.
Experience with program or event management.
Strong writing and editing skills.
Excellent attention to detail and time management.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Experience in student-facing support roles within education.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaborate as a team member.
Demonstrated proficiency in computer skills and Microsoft Office Suite with the ability to master additional platforms.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in higher education, an Arts & Sciences discipline, or related fields.
Several years of experience with fellowship or academic advising in higher education.
Several years of experience with programming or event management.
Demonstrated experience in educational resource development.
Previous research experience.
Demonstrated proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite and/or graphic design tools.
Experience with learning management platforms (e.g. Blackboard, Canvas).
Conditions of Employment:
Occasional evening and weekend work required
Hybrid (works remotely one day a week)
Compensation: Up to $53,000 commensurate with experience

Duties:
50%-Student Advising & Application Support
Provide one-on-one and group advising for students exploring national fellowship opportunities.
Advise students on opportunities that cultivate competitive candidates for national fellowships, including educational experiences, leadership development, and community/campus service.
Guide students through the process of identifying, preparing, and submitting national fellowship applications, including eligibility, timelines, recommendation letters, and application strategy.
Review and provide feedback on application materials, including personal statements, research proposals, and resumes.
Support faculty committees involved in fellowship review and nomination processes.
25%- Communications, Outreach & Recruitment
Collaborate with the Associate Director of Fellowships in creating programming that strengthens campus-wide fellowship awareness and engagement.
Collaborate with the Associate Director of Fellowships in creating and managing educational resources that support students, recommenders, and faculty committees.
Collaborate closely with the Advising Center team to promote the fellowship program, including advertising fellowship opportunities, student outreach events, building social media content, and maintaining a web presence (pages, calendars, FAQs).
Responsible for creating fellowship promotional materials, identifying campus-wide marketing venues, and disseminating promotional materials.
Conduct outreach through student organizations, classroom visits, and tabling events.
Maintain and update the awards database, web links, and resource library.
Develop and maintain digital content on platforms such as Blackboard/Canvas.
Ensure accuracy, clarity, and accessibility of all advising resources.
25%- Events & Program Management
Plan, advertise, and conduct fellowship-related events such as informational sessions, writing intensives, student panels, and recognition events.
Collaborate with campus partners (e.g. centers, departments, living learning communities, residence life) to design and execute joint programs and advising initiatives.
Build and maintain multiple cross-campus relationships, to identify potential fellowship candidates and to cultivate W&M’s fellowship culture.
Develop and manage initiatives such as:
Alumni Network engagement, in partnership with administrative staff.
Fellowship Ambassador Program, including recruitment, supervision, and productivity tracking.
