Ferry Crew Lead (FCL)

GovFirst is seeking to hire multiple Ferry Crew Leads (FCL) to support our operations across various locations in Virginia which includes Bristol, Fredericksburg, Hampton Roads, Norfolk, Newport News, Suffolk, Surry, Salem, Lynchburg, Staunton, Culpeper & Richmond, VA within the Transportation Operations Division. The Ferry Crew Lead will serve as the primary point of contact for personnel management and support within the Jamestown-Scotland Ferry staff operations.

• Act as the initial point of contact for employee questions related to personnel policies, procedures, and benefits.
  

• Oversee and correspond directly with ferry staff, handling phone calls, emails, and documentation related to staffing issues.
  

• Support hiring processes including job postings, recruitment, applicant tracking, interviews, onboarding, and orientation.
  

• Review and verify timesheets, prepare payroll input, and assist with payroll administration.
  

• Maintain employee records, personnel files, and correspondence related to benefits and employment policies.
  

• Assist in administering FMLA, unemployment claims, and workers' compensation processes.
  

• Handle confidential and time-sensitive information with discretion.
  

• Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations concerning HR policies, including maintaining the employee handbook.
  

• Develop and recommend employee relations strategies to promote morale and positive workplace culture.
  

• Monitor performance evaluations, assist with training needs assessments, and address workplace concerns and investigations.
  

• Participate in safety committees and recommend improvements as needed.
  

• Plan and support employee appreciation events and community outreach activities.
  

• Perform other HR-related tasks as assigned by supervisors or project management.
  

Requirements

• Experience in human resources or related administrative roles within operations or transportation sectors.
  

• Strong knowledge of employment laws, FMLA, payroll processes, and benefits administration.
  

• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  

• Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information with professionalism and integrity.
  

• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and HR-related software applications.
  

• Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
  

• Demonstrated leadership, organizational, and decision-making capabilities.
