Title: Associate Project Manager – Fiber Optics
Type: Contract Assignment
Duration: 12 months
Locations: 300 Cadman Plaza, Brooklyn, NY, and field offices throughout the city
Shift: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Pay Rate Range: $40.00 to $44.00 per hour, based on relevant work experience required.


Project Description:

Support of Capital Projects in the Systems Business Unit

 

  • 75% Technical and 25% Administrative
  • 60% Field and 40 % Office environment
  • Right of Way Work is required.
  •  

Education Qualifications Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college in an engineering, architecture, business administration or public administration AND two years' experience
  • Four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent AND six years' experience

OR
 

  • Four-year high school diploma or its equivalent plus any combination of college education and/or experience to make up the equivalent of six years education and experience.

One year of experience will be given for:

30 semester credits of college education leading to a bachelor's degree. o A master's degree from one of the disciplines

A valid New York State license as a Professional Engineer or Registered Architect

Experience Requirements:

  • One year as a project manager for a large and/or complex construction project.
  • One year of full-time satisfactory experience with field inspections of communication\electrical installations.
  • Familiarity with communications/electrical work such as networking and PA/CIS required.
  • Familiarity and/or work knowledge on Fiber Optic Cable installations & testing.

Special Skills Requirements:

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Suite including Excel, Word, Outlook.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of transit operating procedures preferred.
  • Familiarity with Computer Aided Design and Drafting and MTA design standards and guidelines preferred.
  • Familiarity with NEC, NYS, and NYC standards.



Description of Work:

In the capacity of APM I:

  • Review Construction documents and drawings.
  • Supervise and provide guidance to Contractor.
  • Resolve Construction issues related to field conditions, inter discipline conflicts, long term maintenance issues and life cycle costs.
  • Act as a facilitator between the Contractor, Designers, User Departments and Maintenance groups.
  • Resolve field conditions in an expeditious manner and provide input / suggested solutions, obtain formal approval from design engineers when necessary.
  • Identify needs for General orders and other MTA – C&D services and make sure that they are provided to the contractor on timely basis.
  • Initiate General Orders, operate under flagging / General Orders and be able to properly close General Orders.
  • Inspect work in progress, identify and inform contractors of deficiencies or concerns in a timely manner.
  • Prepare daily reports, formal punch-lists, informal / running punch-lists, coordinate and confirm punch-list completion, conduct joint pre-and final inspections with Contractors and MTA trade groups.
  • Ensure that contractor follows OSHA and MTA C&D safety protocol.



Other Work Requirements:
 

  • One day NYCT Track Safety Training Course Required prior to participate in work on or near the wayside; must maintain this qualification for the duration of this assignment.
  • Have safety work boots meeting specifications prior to work on or near wayside at no cost to the MTA or Peak Technical Services. (Boots specifications are provided on the first day of work)
  • Have 30-hour OSHA (Construction) certification is required prior to work on or near wayside.
  • Project Management Guidelines 123 General Order training. Required prior participation in work on or near the wayside, must maintain these qualifications for the duration of the assignment.
