Position Overview:
The Field and Sourcing Support Engineer is responsible for supporting the production and ramp-up of railroad components domestically and overseas as well as providing technical support in the field for rollout of these new components. This role involves visiting existing and potential suppliers and providing technical expertise to customers during installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting activities related to Strato components.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with suppliers, both remotely and in person, to ensure Strato quality standards are maintained, focusing on steel castings.
- Support initial and continued AAR approval of Strato component suppliers.
- During the development of new suppliers, identify areas where improvements are needed and provide recommendations for these improvements.
- Provide technical support related to continuous improvement and new product development of Strato’s reconditioning shop in Peoria, IL.
- Conduct training sessions for Strato salespersons as well as the end users to enhance their technical skills and knowledge of Strato components.
- Troubleshoot technical issues at the supplier, reconditioning shop, or in the field; diagnose problems and implement effective solutions to minimize lost production and ensure quality.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement innovative solutions and drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the reliability, safety, and performance of Strato components and production operations.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
- 5+ years’ experience in railroad component design and development, and/or steel casting design and development.
- Knowledge of Railway design and systems is highly desirable.
- Strong technical background with knowledge of production processes like heat treatment, welding, machining, and shot blasting.
- Excellent project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Effective communication skills with the ability to collaborate with engineers, sourcing personnel, suppliers, and field personnel to achieve project objectives.
- Problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot technical issues, develop innovative solutions, and implement effective resolutions in a timely manner.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally for field visits, supplier meetings, and project assignments as needed to support product development and rollout.
