Job Description - Field Application Engineer, East Coast - c-Max


MaxLite seeks a dynamic Field Application Engineer to provide comprehensive support for our c-Max Lighting Controls product line. This role serves as the critical technical liaison between MaxLite and our agent network, ensuring successful c-Max Lighting control deployments and customer satisfaction through expert technical guidance, on-site commissioning support, remote troubleshooting and collaborative sales activities in the evolving lighting controls and smart buildings landscape. The right c-Max champion for this role must be based out of the east coast

Responsibilities

Technical Support & Solution Architecture

• Provide technical assistance to Agents, ESCO’s, End-Users and Installers on c-Max control applications and sensor integration. Analyze project specifications and provide technical recommendations for optimal lighting control solutions

• Review and cross job bids to ensure accuracy, technical feasibility, and compliance with energy codes and standards. Develop comprehensive controls, Bill of Materials (BOM) for projects, ensuring proper component selection, network topology, and system interoperability

• Support NLC and LLLC network design and fixture-specific sensor deployment strategies

Field Services & System Commissioning

• Perform on-site system startup, configuration, testing, to ensure proper operation and data flow

• Visit customer sites to diagnose and resolve complex issues with lighting controls systems

• Provide hands-on training to installers, facility managers, and end users on system operation

• Document field issues and collaborate with engineering teams on product enhancements

Sales Support & Market Development

• Partner with Regional Sales Manager to support sales activities and participate in customer presentations, technical demonstrations, and proof-of-concept deployments

• Build and maintain strong relationships with agents, contractors, facility managers, and building owners. Support specification development and provide technical input for design-build projects

• Maintain detailed documentation and reports and update technical troubleshooting materials

• Visit key customers with the product team to present new software features/upgrades and train on new product solutions set to launch.


Requirements

Education Background

• Associate or bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Electronics, or related technical field

• Minimum 3-5 years of experience in lighting controls, building automation, IoT systems, or related intelligent building technologies. Candidates won’t be considered without this experience

• Experience with commercial lighting control systems, wireless networks, and sensor-based solutions highly desired

Technical Skills

• Strong understanding of lighting control systems, wireless mesh networks and IoT protocols

• Experience with commissioning tools, network configuration software, and diagnostic protocols

• Ability to read engineering blueprints such as reflective ceiling plans and electrical drawings

• Knowledge of electrical codes, energy standards (ASHRAE 90.1 or IECC)

• Experience with Bluebeam layout tool desirable

Soft Skills

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with high concern for customer needs

• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to details with respect to field issues

• Highly comfortable with presentation and demonstration of products

• Positive attitude and able to communicate product vision and organizational goals

• Highly organized and ability to manage multiple projects with good time management skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Professional engineering license, CLCP (Certified Lighting Controls Professional), or relevant IoT/networking certifications

• Experience with NLC and LLLC products or similar intelligent lighting control platforms

• Previous lighting controls field service or application engineering experience

• Knowledge of energy codes, utility incentive programs, and lighting design principles

• Experience working with electrical contractors, systems integrators, and specification agents

• Familiarity with data analytics platforms and building performance optimization tools

Physical Requirements and Travel

• Ability to travel extensively (40-60% travel required)

• Ability to work in various environmental conditions including construction sites

• Physical capability to lift equipment up to 50 pounds
