Field Engineer

About the Position 

We’re seeking a Field Engineer to support large, heavy-civil infrastructure programs—including highways, roads, bridges, transit (including rail and bus), and airport projects delivered through both traditional and alternative methods. You’ll be on the front lines of a multi-contract program that involves deep excavation, complex utility coordination, and heavy civil construction in a dense urban environment. This role is ideal for engineers who thrive in the field, have strong instincts for interpreting plans and specs, and want to take ownership of construction oversight, document compliance, and technical problem-solving. You'll monitor contractors’ daily work, lead inspection coordination, track quantities for payment, and interface directly with design engineers to identify and resolve discrepancies. This is a long-term, full-time, on-site position located in Manhattan, NY.  

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: 

• Inspect, monitor, and oversee construction field work tasks and activities to ensure conformance to plans and specifications. Reads, interprets, and confirms compliance with applicable contract documents. 


• Perform or oversee on-site material testing. Review plans and specifications to determine material requirements (quantities and qualities). Responsible for tracking of item quantities and preparing pay estimates and ensures that procedures and materials comply with plans and specifications. 


• Initiate field changes to drawings and specifications, identify discrepancies or conflicts within the documents. Review contractor’s daily construction reports for accuracy, thoroughness, and consistency. Responsible for maintaining as constructed drawings and monitoring contractors progress to analyze against progress schedule. 


• Consult with Resident Engineer on work progress and construction problems, proactively recommends solutions, assist in the resolution of issues, and act as a liaison with the engineer of record. 


• Remain current and knowledgeable of industry technology and tools used to perform inspection work through industry resources, training, and research. Gain exposure to new technology and utilize it (GPS/Rovers) to increase efficiency and accuracy of inspection tasks. 


• Perform office engineer work when needed including but not limited to; preparing documentation for change orders, reviewing change order scope of work, schedule, and cost, process and maintaining tracking logs for RFIs, submittals, pay estimates, and other deliverables. 


• Assist in constructability reviews.

Minimum Qualifications 

• Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience. 


• OSHA 30 certification. 


• 4+ years' similar work experience for large scale transit construction projects, including experience in deep excavation and slurry. 


• Identify complex discrepancies or conflicts within documents and take appropriate action to resolve issues. 


• Perform advanced calculations, develop plots and graphs using Excel, and drafts detailed reports for project progress reporting to the client. 


• Perform advanced shop drawing and submittal review as well as advanced CPM schedule analysis.  


• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite/Office 365 (e.g., Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.). 

Preferred Qualifications 

• Master's degree in construction management or engineering.   


• Active professional license and/or certifications such PE, CCM, or ACI. 


• Experience with Constructware, Asite, or similar digital construction management software. 

Compensation Details 

The salary range listed for this role is $125k-$156k/year ($60-$75/hour). The final salary offered will be based on multiple factors and thoughtfully aligned with each candidate’s level of experience, breadth of skills, total education achieved, certifications/licenses that have been obtained, geographic location, etc.
