Purpose of Position:

The Field Engineer – MineProtect Portfolio, will be responsible to manage and work on deployments, customizations, and support for all Hexagon Mining Safety solutions. The Hexagon Mining MineProtect portfolio includes Operator Fatigue, Collision Avoidance, Proximity Detection, Personal Alert, Vehicle Intervention and other partner solutions. This is a customer-facing role with regular travel to support regional Hexagon Mining customers. The Field Engineer will work with many aspects of the organization including Sales, Account Management, Product Development, and Product Management.

Major Areas of Responsibility:

The identified scope of the resource shall include but not limited to:

  • To deploy new and upgraded Hexagon solutions at client sites.
  • To do basic troubleshooting and configuration of hardware, software and computer systems.
  • Provide site based and remote system support to clients.
  • To lead projects involving other technical staff and contractors through the deployment of complex mining solutions at customer sites.
  • Perform work independently or within a team as required to ensure client expectations are met including:
    • Defining and reviewing project proposals and plans with colleagues and customers
    • Execution of projects including definition of project phases, elements and schedule
    • Loading of basic configurations, upgrades and operating systems onto computing equipment (field and servers) following defined change management procedure
    • Develop procedures and system reports in response to client requests and needs.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the Hexagon team
  • Compliance with Hexagon’s policies and procedures

Client-specific duties are as follows:

  • Manage site stakeholder relationships and operate as Hexagon's primary Service & Support representative.
  • Carry out operator and/or additional site personnel system refresher training.
  • Provide site personnel with TL1 and TL1 Train the Trainer system training.
  • Carry out operator ride-alongs, interviews, etc to gain additional operator feedback for system continuous improvement.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose any potential system anomalies.
  • Deliver system hardware/software/firmware upgrades with testing and release notes.
  • Carry out post-upgrade system UAT to ensure upgrade is performing to specification.
  • New feature enablement and operator training.
  • System preventative maintenance checks in conjunction with fleet maintenance program.
  • Own and follow up all support cases and Product Request for Enhancements escalated by clients.
  • Handle and Manage all RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization) request for hardware repairs.
  • Keep track of hardware inventory on site to keep up with site needs/demands.
  • Maintain documentation on hardware and software changes made to each piece of equipment and server/system.
  • Setup repository to manage and update all site paperwork.
Knowledge and Experience - Required:
  • Candidates with technical experiences in any of these areas will be considered:
    • Operating systems including Linux and Windows
    • Ruby, Postgres, SQL Server, LINUX shell scripting, or Objective C software development.
    • Networking – Wireless, Ethernet, TCP/IP, Protocols, Switching & Routing
    • Ability to resolve complex issues through troubleshooting techniques
  • Candidates will also need:
    • Strong prioritizing and time management skills
    • Well-developed communication skills, both verbal and written
    • Ability to form strong relationships with customers and represent the company professionally
  • “Boots on the ground” mine site experience is required.
Knowledge and Experience - Desired:
  • 3-5 years mine site experience
  • 3-5 years of mine safety technology development, configuration, deployment, operations, and/or support
  • Safety-focused mindset and innate ability to understand and connect safety technology applications to real-world risk mitigation
Travel:
  • This role is based out of Tucson but will require extensive travel within the region to provide on-location site support for major clients.
  • Varies from 40% - 80% regional weekday travel.
Additional Information:
  • Ability to work from home or office when not on site, company provided vehicle for site travel, extended travel compensation policy
  • Salary commensurate with experience and work location
