Job Description - Field Maintenance Trainee


The 107/234 Field Mechanic Trainee assists a certified Aircraft Mechanic in servicing, repairing, and inspecting aircraft and aircraft engines, documents training completion needed to complete requirements to obtain FAA Airframe & Powerplant mechanic certifications.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Using mechanic's tools, removes inspection panels, cowlings, engine covers, floorboards, and related items to provide access for inspection and repair and replaces items when the work is completed.
  • Adjusts and replaces parts such as control cables, fuel tanks, links, tires, batteries, and filters.
  • Performs Cabin Crew Member duties when required which includes loading, securing, and unloading cargo, and assisting the Pilot-In-Command in preflight requirements of cabin area, aircraft emergency equipment, aircraft first aid kit, and “go bag.” Preflight requirements ensure all aircraft safety equipment is installed, functional, and in proper working order.
  • As delegated by the Pilot-In-Command, briefs all passengers on Helicopter Safety Briefing Cards that are located above each passenger seat and available for reference by passengers. Briefing will include location and operation of emergency equipment.
  • Responsible for obtaining actual weight of passengers, baggage, and cargo to the maximum extent possible for weight and balance and load manifest. In the event actual weight cannot be obtained, interrogated/solicited weight will be used in accordance with Air Carrier Operations Manual.
  • Assists in towing and jacking aircraft, disconnects instruments, ignition systems, and fuel and oil lines.
  • Assists in dismantling, repairing, or replacing parts and assemblies such as engines, plumbing and hydraulic systems, and aircraft structural sections.
  • Performs routine duties such as furnishing materials, tools, and supplies to Aircraft Mechanics; lifting and holding materials in place during operation; cleaning machines, tools and equipment, aircraft, interior and exterior parts and assemblies using solvents or other cleaning solutions, and cleaning work areas.
  • Maintains assigned support equipment (GSE) and performs Inventory Management duties as required
  • Inflates tires, fills gasoline tanks and oil reservoirs, and greases aircraft with grease gun, and may assist flight line mechanic, worker, or servicer in servicing and repairing aircraft prior to flight.
  • Travels with assigned aircraft and crew to domestic and international locations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Must have valid driver’s license and ability to receive DOT certification
  • Must have demonstrated mechanical aptitude and written confirmation of such skill by the Company’s Crew Chief
  • Must be able to obtain FAA Airframe & Powerplant certification in the time allotted (18 months per certificate)
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to focus on tasks at hand when there is poor scope definition or in areas of issues
  • Must be solution oriented and committed to consistency and process
  • Ability to work under minimal direction while keeping within the limitations of designated authorities and abilities and exercising sound judgment to perform tasks.

·         Physically able to perform the following:

o    Lift 21 to 50 pounds 67%-100% of the time

o    Lift 51 to 75 pounds 45%-66% of the time

o    Lift 76 to 100 pounds 33% of the time 

o    Carry 21 to 50 pounds 67%-100% of the time

o    Carry 51 to 75 pounds 33% of the time

o    Push 100 to 250 pounds 67%-100% of the time

o    Push over 250 pounds 45%-66% of the time

o    Pull 51 to 75 pounds 67%-100% of the time 

o    Pull 101 to 250 pounds 45-66% of the time

o    Pull over 250 pounds 33% of the time

o    Bending, squatting, standing, walking, reaching above shoulders, below shoulders and at shoulders, repetitive use of arms, wrist, and hands 67% to 100% of the time, frequently while lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling loads and weights above.

o    Work outside in extreme heat or cold, in frequently dusty, noisy environments, on uneven surfaces, during day and night work hours.
