Position Title: Material Coordinator

Location: Field, North Carolina (Per diem provided for qualified candidates)

Position Description

The Material Coordinator verifies material used in the construction of pipelines and facilities, comply with plans, contract specifications, codes, and industry standards as well as track shipping and receiving, oversees proper staging and storage, address quality concerns and accounts for materials used during the assigned construction project. 

The Material Coordinator exercises independent judgment and discretion in making recommendations regarding the quality standards, safety practices and regulatory compliance aspects of pipeline construction projects.

Essential Functions

  • Inspects and oversees materials used in the construction of pipelines, facilities, and other types of construction work. 
  • Adheres to procedures and complies with contract specifications, codes, and industry standards. 
  • Prioritizes material delivery schedules while coordinating with the construction contractor to verify critical materials have met project needs.
  • Coordinates and administers flow, schedules and deliveries for material to the construction site.
  • Verifies the accuracy of materials ordered against the material take-off on construction drawings and assists in establishing that materials have been ordered correctly; and that proper material changes have been made according to any drawing revisions. 
  • Prepares a list of materials missed, ordered incorrectly or damaged. 
  • Maintains contact with supply stores and outside vendors to discuss matters relating to the procurement of missing materials that are to be purchased. 
  • Expedites materials to prevent scheduling conflicts.
  • Tracks materials through the use of bills of materials, purchase orders, drawings, certification records, serial numbers, material test records, heat numbers, packing slips, and other tracking mechanisms. 
  • Observes and provides consultation on the proper unloading of materials received on site and that materials are stored in a safe non-damaged manner with shelter provided when necessary. 
  • Verifies the correct number and type of undamaged goods are delivered by comparing delivery to the Bill of Lading. Communicates with common carrier when damaged goods are delivered.
  • Records and notifies Chief Inspector of deviations from construction specifications, drawings, permits, and governing regulations.

  


Requirements

 

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in pipeline and related facilities construction activities.
  • 2+ years receiving, checking for accuracy, maintaining and accounting for construction material.
  • Basic computer knowledge: i.e. Word, Excel, and email functions.

Education

Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent.

Competencies

  • Good listening and clear communication skills.
  • Good decision making and problem-solving skills.
  • Good time and priority management (must be able to multi-task).

Work Environment/Physical Demands 

  • Physically able to operate an automobile, have reliable transportation.
  • Frequent sitting and operating a computer.
  • Occasionally lift to 10 pounds.
  • Ability to work outside in all types of weather/weather conditions.
  • When on jobsites, frequent standing, and walking.
  • Ability to travel as required for site visits on a long-term basis.
