Job Description - Field Ops Manager

Description

 Operations Manager is responsible for managing the leadership staff of solar day to day field operations, to include MV and DC underground and above ground activities. This position requires strategically allocating sufficient and appropriate manpower across all solar projects in order to maintain contractual schedules and internal budgets.  Employee will play a lead role in providing financial and operational support to project managers as well as executive management, while generating and implementing strategies to improve efficiency throughout project builds. Will be managing resource allocation and overseeing all projects from inception to completion. The position will require frequent customer engagement, contract analysis, and oversight of project budgeting, change orders, and material procurement. The position requires great leadership skills, analytical thinking, problem solving abilities, strong computer skills, and excellent knowledge mechanical construction. 

 

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Cultivate  safety as a core value throughout the company, supporting the corporate safety program and personnel
  • Review and understand contracts for all solar projects prior to project execution, addressing any concerns with the customer and/or project team
  • Approve material submittal packages developed by project development team
  • Review project manager weekly forecast and coordinate with the team on any needed resource adjustments
  • Review project manager summary reports to ensure milestone dates are achieved, addressing all concerns
  • Assign and manage resources for solar projects, to include subcontract labor, with a focus on project schedule requirements and budget efficiency
  • Directly responsible for all crews, up to and to include hiring, disciplinary actions, and terminations
  • Manage and maintain resource allocation log to include monthly forecast
  • Review and approve project managers proposed schedule of values (SOV) billing percentages for all work and submit to Director
  • Assist project manager with identifying potential change orders and generating proper documents for review and submission to Director for final approval
  • Consistent on-site presence to ensure projects run smooth, customer relationships are maintained, and subordinate daily responsibilities are adhered to
  • Proactively check for “red flags” and resolve any identified issues before they present a problem
  • Provide guidance/direction to Project manager on creating and managing project budgets
  • Facilitate quotes and recommend subcontractors to PM for required MV and soil testing
  • Provide support and assistance to other DSI divisions as needed
  • Handle special assignments and other duties as requested by leadership
  • Ensure project managers have submitted contract deliverables and they are provided to the customer on time. 

Requirements

 

  • High School diploma or GED required; Advanced education preferred (Degree and/or PMP Certification)
  • Six + years of progressive project management, electrical, solar, and/or power utility experience (preferred)
  • In depth knowledge of underground utility installation and required equipment
  • NFPA 70E Certification (preferred)
  • Familiar with OSHA regulations (required), OSHA training and certifications (preferred)
  • Must have valid driver’s license and a clean driving record
  • Must be able to work long and/or extended hours to include weekends as needed, with ability to travel frequently
  • Familiar with Local code, AHJ standards, and NEC code
  • Understands how to read and interpret contracts, plans, and specifications
  • Effective time management skills, understands how to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrates commitment to high professional ethical standards
  • Collaborative work style and commitment to get the job done
