Job Description - Field Service Calibration Technician - RTP, NC

Description

InstroTek Inc, is currently seeking a full-time Field Service Calibration Technician - RTP, NC.  The FS Tech provides high-quality asphalt, soil, and concrete calibration services to the materials testing laboratories, both in-house and on-site. Must be willing and able to travel approximately 80%, including overnight stays.

The Field Service Technician is responsible for the calibration, maintenance, repair, and installation of laboratory testing equipment used in the Soils, Aggregate, Asphalt, Binder, and Concrete industries. This role involves both in-house and on-site service, requiring frequent travel to customer locations. The technician ensures equipment meets quality and compliance standards, provides technical support and training, and maintains strong customer relationships. Success in this role requires a high level of technical skill, attention to detail, professionalism, and a commitment to safety and service excellence.

Essential Functions

  • Calibrate and service testing equipment on-site and in-house
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and electronic equipment issues
  • Perform new equipment installations and conduct customer training
  • Maintain accurate and timely service documentation and reports
  • Primary contact and support for customers throughout the full cycle of their equipment servicing, ensuring a high-quality customer service experience
  • Plan and coordinate travel arrangements in accordance with company guidelines
  • Respond to customer support tickets and technical inquiries
  • Maintain compliance with ISO 17025, A2LA, and internal quality standards
  • Inspect and test equipment for proper functionality and compliance
  • Provide technical support via phone, email, and in-person communications
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure adequate inventory and parts availability
  • Conduct post-service follow-ups with customers to confirm issue resolution and satisfaction
  • Provide calibration documentation for the customers’ compliance requirements
  • Perform Full 3 and 5 Block Nuclear Gauge Calibrations and Build Standard Blocks
  • Follow ISO/IEC 17025: 2017 guidelines
  • Use custom software (CalPlus Pro) in the calibration process
  • Clean, lubricate gauges and diagnoses needed repairs.
  • Additional duties as needed and requested by management

Requirements

  • Willingness  and ability to travel approximately 80%, including overnight staysMinimum 2 years of experience in field service, calibration, or laboratory equipment repair
  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills
  • Experience with ISO 17025 and/or A2LA environments preferred
  • Ability to interpret technical documentation, schematics, and specifications
  • Proficient in using diagnostic tools, hand tools, and calibration instruments
  • Ability to work independently, as well as in a team environment with minimal supervision and strong attention to detail
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills including solid written and verbal communications
  • Strong clerical and office experience
  • Ability to resolve problems
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite with enough proficiency to prepare spreadsheets, forms, correspondence, certificates, etc. with speed and accuracy

Physical Demands

  • Required to travel approximately 80%, including overnight stays
  • Valid Drivers License and eligible to be insured
  • Ability to Lift 50+ lbs
  • Willingness to work in materials labs where asphalt, concrete, and soil are present
  • Long periods of standing while working on equipment
