Position Summary:
The Field Service – Controls & Automation Technician will be responsible for the fabrication, assembly, installation, commissioning, repair, training and technical support of assigned orders relating to automation, controls and electronic products within a customer’s location and/or within RG Group. Additionally, the Field Service - Controls & Automation Technician will be responsible for timely and quality service, supervision, and the design/quote process for assigned orders as they will be the subject matter expert.
Essential Functions:
- Fabricate, commission, install, troubleshoot and repair controls/automation systems & equipment
- Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on controls/automation systems by utilizing reference materials including manuals, drawings and procedures
- Troubleshoot controls/automation systems using knowledge of microprocessors, programmable controllers, electronics, circuit analysis, mechanics, sensor or feedback systems.
- Conduct tests, inspections and evaluation of mechanical, electrical and software components relating to controls/automation systems and equipment
- Build electrical panels and the wiring of electrical devices.
- Seek sales opportunities while ensuring customer satisfaction. In addition to keep accurate records of service calls, maintain inventory of service parts, tools, and test equipment.
- Set parameters, positioning and sequences for an automation system
- Calibrate equipment to achieve optimum performance
- When needed, provide support and backup for the fabrication, assembly and installation of pneumatic systems, hydraulic systems and all product supporting these systems
- Develops an organized approach to solving problems
- Operate independently in the field and directly with customers
- Respond to customer emergency service requests
- Assist with updates and modifications to control/automation systems at customer sites and training customers on the use and maintenance of equipment.
- Be responsible for delivering high quality service and customer satisfaction, as well as, working well with the team and providing support/ coverage as per business needs.
- Facilitate project management as a supporting role to the Project Manager
- Overnight travel is required
Knowledge, skills and abilities (minimum job competencies required for the job):
- Knowledge of design and product specifications as it relates to controls, automation systems, pneumatic systems and hydraulic systems.
- Knowledge of and familiarity with controls, automation systems and electronic components, including drawings and schematics
- Knowledge of and familiarity with pneumatic systems and hydraulic systems, including drawings and schematics
- Experience with fabrication and field installation of controls, automation systems, pneumatic systems and hydraulic systems.
- Ability to work safely in any environment and comply with any customer or agency safety requirements.
- Good math and reading skills
- Skills to effectively manage time and meet all necessary deadlines
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
- Demonstrated dependability and ability to work independently
- Able to lift up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 75 pounds occasionally
- Able to spend majority of day on feet in a manufacturing environment.
- Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
Environment:
- 1. Office, Customer Facilities, and job sites
- 2. Must have flexibility in work hours including evenings and weekends
- 3. Light to Moderate travel required, some overnight and international travel required
Education and Experience:
- - High School diploma or equivalent required. Additional technical schooling is preferred.
- - 3-5 years successful Project Management experience
