Learn more about our benefits. \n\nAs a Field Service Engineer [Customer Engineer] at Applied Materials, you serve as the direct liaison with customers, collaborating closely to install, maintain, and upgrade equipment. You\u0027ll use digital analytics for troubleshooting and apply basic diagnostic techniques to assess and address technical issues. Your responsibilities include performing preventative and corrective maintenance on various systems such as electrical, vacuum, mechanical, plasma, hydraulic, and gas systems. Additionally, you\u0027ll coordinate and communicate directly with customers to ensure smooth operations and exceptional service.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\nTechnical Leadership \u0026 Troubleshooting \n\u2022 Act as the technical authority for CVD equipment hardware and process performance. \n\u2022 Lead troubleshooting and resolution of complex equipment failures, including:\n\n * Mass Flow Controller (MFC) failures\n * Vacuum pump malfunctions\n * Heater and temperature control breakdowns\n * Gas delivery issues and leak detection\n\n\n\n\u2022 Perform deep root cause analysis for repeat failures, defect excursions, and film non-uniformity. \n\u2022 Escalate and drive closure of critical, chronic, or high-impact tool issues.\n\nEquipment \u0026 Process Expertise \n\u2022 Maintain strong hands-on expertise in CVD process fundamentals and chamber hardware. \n\u2022 Support and optimize CVD platforms from AMAT, ASM, or LAM. \n\u2022 Understand interactions between process conditions, hardware health, defectivity, and yield. \n\u2022 Partner closely with process engineering to debug defects, uniformity loss, and process drift.\n\nFab Operations \u0026 Resource Management \n\u2022 Allocate engineering resources to daily assignments based on fab priorities and tool status. \n\u2022 Own machine availability and performance metrics for assigned CVD tools. \n\u2022 Balance corrective maintenance, preventive maintenance, and improvement activities to support production demand.\n\nCoaching \u0026 Team Development \n\u2022 Observe, coach, and mentor junior engineers and technicians directly on the fab floor. \n\u2022 Establish best practices for troubleshooting, diagnostics, and equipment recovery. \n\u2022 Provide technical guidance during high-pressure tool down or yield-impacting events.\n\nContinuous Improvement \u0026 Data Analytics \n\u2022 Drive Continuous Improvement Projects (CIP) focused on hardware reliability, uptime, and cost reduction. \n\u2022 Lead structured data collection, failure trend analysis, and performance monitoring. \n\u2022 Generate clear documentation and reports capturing lessons learned and corrective actions.\n\nCross-Functional \u0026 Business Interface \n\u2022 Translate complex technical field issues into clear, actionable communication for Business Units. \n\u2022 Interface with equipment vendors to resolve systemic issues and drive design or hardware improvements. \n\u2022 Communicate technical risks, priorities, and progress to fab and operations leadership.\n\nRequired Qualifications \n\u2022 Minimum 5+ years of semiconductor industry experience in one or more of the following areas: \no Field Service Engineering \no Process Engineering \no Manufacturing / Fab Engineering \n\u2022 Strong hands-on experience supporting CVD equipment in a production fab environment. \n\u2022 Proven expertise in CVD hardware, process interactions, defectivity, and uniformity troubleshooting. \n\u2022 Direct experience with AMAT, ASM, or LAM CVD tools. \n\u2022 Solid understanding of vacuum systems, gas delivery, thermal control, and equipment safety systems. \n\u2022 Demonstrated ability to lead and resolve complex technical issues in high-volume manufacturing.\n\nEducation \n\u2022 Minimum Bachelor\u2019s degree in:\n\n * Materials Science \u0026 Engineering\n * Chemical Engineering\n * Mechanical Engineering\n\n\n\n\u2022 Master\u2019s degree (MS) preferred in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.\n\nPreferred Attributes \n\u2022 Strong ownership mindset for equipment uptime and fab performance. \n\u2022 Data-driven problem solver with structured root cause analysis skills. \n\u2022 Ability to coach and technically influence engineers without direct authority. \n\u2022 Clear written and verbal communication skills across technical and business audiences. \n\u2022 Comfortable operating in high-pressure, fast-paced fab environments.\n\nAdditional Information\n\nTime Type:\n\nFull time\n\nEmployee Type:\n\nAssignee / Regular\n\nTravel:\n\nYes, 20% of the Time\n\nRelocation Eligible:\n\nYes\n\nThe salary offered to a selected candidate will be based on multiple factors including location, hire grade, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and with consideration of internal equity of our current team members.
