Job Description - Field Surveyor

Role Overview:


As a Field Surveyor, you will be an essential part of our surveying team, working outdoors to collect accurate field data that serves as the foundation for successful engineering and surveying projects. You will work alongside experienced surveying and engineering professionals on a variety of projects including boundary surveys, topographic surveys, and construction staking. If you enjoy working outside, solving problems, and contributing to projects that shape communities, this role is an excellent fit for you.



Key Responsibilities:



Field Data Collection
Collect accurate survey data for boundary, topographic, and construction layout projects using modern surveying equipment and technology.


Construction Layout Staking:
Perform construction staking and layout services for residential, commercial, and public infrastructure projects.


Boundary and Property Research:
Locate property corners, monumentation, and right-of-way markers to support boundary survey work.


Utility Inventory and Documentation:
Identify and document visible utility features and assist in collecting utility information for project design and construction.


Survey Equipment Operation:
Operate and maintain surveying equipment including robotic total stations, GPS receivers, data collectors, and related field tools.


Project Coordination:
Work closely with Survey Coordinators, Project Managers, Engineers, and other survey team members to ensure projects are completed accurately and on schedule.


Safety and Quality Assurance:
Follow established safety procedures and quality standards while working in the field and around active construction sites.


Field Documentation:
Maintain accurate field notes, records, and electronic data files to support survey deliverables and project documentation.



Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:



  • Willingness to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions and flexible hours when project schedules require.

  • Strong sense of urgency and self-motivation to meet client and project deadlines.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.

  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans and survey drawings is preferred.

  • Working knowledge of robotic total stations and GPS equipment is preferred, but not required.

  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD or surveying software is a plus, but not required.

  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team.

  • Construction or surveying experience is preferred.

  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record and ability to pass a drug screening.
