Field Technician

Job Summary

The Field Technician is responsible for supporting the sustained operation of drill-rig logistics related to exploration, delineation, and production wellfield drilling. This includes preparation and marking of drill locations, field data collection, and maintenance of associated equipment. The role ensures that contract drill rigs operate according to plans established by the Development Manager.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain Trimble GPS and other equipment used for marking drill locations to support an efficient and safe drilling schedule.
• Collect, record, and manage drill-hole marking data and statuses (e.g., marked, drilled, completed) in both field and electronic formats.
• Perform routine maintenance on field equipment and vehicles, and maintain an organized inventory of field supplies.
• Assist drilling logistics and logging crews in evaluating drill-hole status and supporting efficient rig scheduling.
• Monitor field preparedness for drilling activities, including location readiness, casing, plugging, and regulatory compliance.
• Maintain clean and safe working conditions in accordance with federal, state, and company safety standards.
• Ensure proper marking, identification, and reporting of drill and well statuses according to standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Qualifications

• Highschool Diploma or GED required
• Working knowledge of drilling-related equipment and field logistics
• Some experience with GIS software preferred (ArcGIS, QGIS, ArcMap, etc.)
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English clearly
• Capable of solving basic math problems manually or with a calculator
• Valid driver’s license in the state of employment
• Physically able to carry up to 50 lbs and work outdoors in various conditions
• Willingness to work overtime as required and approved
• Commitment to safety practices and proper use of required safety equipment
• Ability to communicate via portable radio or telephone
• Ability to operate hand tools and small power tools for extended periods
• Team-oriented with strong interpersonal and organizational skills
• Familiarity with maintaining accurate records and following SOPs
