Job Description - Finance Leader


Deneen Pottery is a multi-generation, family-owned production pottery studio proudly creating the highest-quality handmade mugs on the planet. You’ll be stepping into a key leadership role with full ownership of finance and accounting while also providing strategic oversight of HR and IT—two areas that are critical to our continued evolution. We’re looking for someone who not only knows how to manage the numbers but is eager to help shape the business. You’ll be supported by our outgoing Finance Leader, who has been instrumental in our success and will remain connected to the business as a mentor and strategic partner. This is an ideal role for someone with manufacturing experience in the $5–15M range who wants to grow into a broader executive role while being part of a team that believes culture and operational excellence go hand in hand.

What You’ll Own


As the Finance Leader, you’ll be a core member of our leadership team responsible for the financial integrity of Deneen Pottery. You will lead all accounting and finance functions, while also providing strategic oversight of HR and Information Systems. You’ll ensure compliance, build and sustain culture, optimize systems, and help drive growth by providing the financial insights that inform key business decisions.

Key Responsibilities

Finance & Accounting


    • Manage accounting operations: A/R, A/P, GL, payroll, revenue recognition, job costing
    • Deliver timely and accurate monthly financial statements
    • Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting processes
    • Maintain compliance with GAAP, sales tax, and regulatory filings
    • Support banking relationships and cash management strategies
    • Coordinate annual audits and tax filings with external partners
    • Develop internal control frameworks and process improvements

Human Resources 


Lead our HR Generalist & oversee HR policies and compliance
• Oversee recruiting, onboarding, performance management, benefits, and employee relations
• Lead compensation planning, benefit strategy, and negotiation, with a financial lens

Leadership & Strategic Planning


  • Serve as a trusted advisor to the CEO and Leadership Team
   • Contribute to strategic planning, risk management, and operational excellence
   • Mentor and guide Accounting, HR, and IT team members
   • Champion a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and collaboration

Information Technology Systems 


   • Lead our FT Systems Developer strategy with business goals in partnership with external support
   • Manage technology budgets and investment planning
   • Ensure data integrity, cybersecurity awareness, and support systems development (e.g., FileMaker ERP)


Requirements

What You Bring


   • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or MBA preferred)
    • 10+ years of progressive financial leadership in a manufacturing or production environment
    • Prior Controller experience strongly preferred
    • Experience in EOS (Entrepreneurial Operating System) or similar business operating framework
   • Working knowledge of HR and Information Systems oversight
    • Proficiency in QuickBooks Online, Excel, and ERP tools (FileMaker experience a plus)
    • Deep understanding of GAAP, internal controls, and compliance
    • Hands-on, roll-up-your-sleeves style suited to a growing small/mid-sized business
    • Excellent leadership, analytical, and communication skills
    • It would be great if you are bilingual in English and Hmong
