Position: Financial and Care Services Navigator

Job Summary: The Financial and Care Services Navigator will be responsible for assisting clients with financial matters related to their behavioral health care. This role involves working closely with clients to provide guidance on insurance coverage, payment options, and financial assistance programs, ensuring that clients understand their financial responsibilities and have access to necessary resources. This role also provides case management services to clients. This position reports to the Clinical Specialist.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Duties include, but are not limited to:

• Conduct insurance verification for commercial payers and communicate benefits, coverage limits, co-pays, and deductibles to patients


• Review self-pay options and payment plans with patients; assist in setting up and tracking payment agreements.


• Collect and post patient payments in accordance with Lighthouse policy


• Serve as the point of contact for patients regarding financial questions, billing concerns, and insurance updates


• Work closely with the finance team to ensure proper claims processing and resolution of patient financial concerns


• Document all financial discussions in appropriate systems, ensuring compliance with HIPAA and internal policies


• Assist clients in applying for financial assistance programs, including sliding fee scales, charity care, and government assistance programs


• Coordinate referrals to internal and external resources including behavioral health services, medical providers, social services, and legal aid as needed


• Collaborate with the clinical team to ensure alignment of care plans and follow-up on patient progress


• Works collaboratively with the treatment team following up with observations in the development of the treatment plan


• Adheres to Lighthouse's protocol for appropriate "care management" activities as part of the continuum of services to meet each client's defined needs and as defined in the treatment plan


• Provides follow-up and appropriate referrals to community resources.


• Collaboration and coordination of services to ensure continuity of care and efficiency of services across systems is vital to early recovery


• Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED


• Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in financial counseling, billing, or a related role, preferably in a healthcare or behavioral health setting


• Experience in insurance verification, financial counseling, or patient billing (particularly with commercial payers and self-pay clients).


• Proficiency in financial software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)


• Must pass BCI check, all Corporate Compliance checks, and employment drug screen

Desired Qualifications:

• Associate or bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, social work, behavioral health, or related field


• Previous experience in a healthcare, behavioral health, or substance use disorder treatment setting


• Case management or client services experience


• CDCA (Chemical Dependency Counselor Assistant) or equivalent credential


• Medical Billing & Coding or Revenue Cycle certification


• Familiarity with community resources and patient referral systems


• Strong knowledge of healthcare insurance and billing practices


• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:30am - 5:00pm

Compensation range: $20.19 - $26.60
