PVH employment application required.  All job offers contingent upon background check and completion of pre-employment physical.  

Position: full time 30 hours, hourly, union, non-exempt.

JOB FUNCTIONS

  1. Ensures patient demographic and financial information is complete in the hospital’s medical record system by collaborating directly with Patient Registration, Rural Health Clinic, Specialty Clinics, Surgical Services, and other related areas.  
  2. Determines or confirms eligibility and coverage of insurance for insured patients.
  3. Reviews patient census daily and provides inpatient/observation notification to insurance companies required to obtain prior authorization, communicating to Case Management and documenting all information related to prior authorization in the hospital medical record.
  4. Verify authorizations for scheduled procedures such as surgeries, infusions, imaging, or other procedures.
  5. Works in conjunction with ancillary departments and physician practices to obtain and ensure accurate procedure information.
  6. Pre-registers scheduled patients for ancillary services according to the department schedule in enterprise wide scheduling
  7. Accurately documents all communication with patients and physician offices in hospital medical record systems.
  8. Communicates effectively and assists patients with various billing and financial related questions or concerns. 
  9. Informs patients of potential liability prior to services. Collaborates with the Collector to collect payments and/or set up payment plans for account balances.
  10. Completes assigned work to achieve department productivity and quality standards.
  11. Maintains strong working knowledge of revenue cycle to include financial clearance, billing and price estimate procedures. 
  12. Represents the organization professionally in all interactions with patients, staff, and visitors. Contributes to a work environment characterized by cooperation, collaboration, respect, and teamwork. Demonstrates adaptability to change and challenges and appropriately utilizes resources to achieve goals.
  13. Notifies department leaders of unresolved issues.
  14. Professional demeanor and adherence to the Employee Handbook and Code of Ethics is expected.
  15. Completes other duties as assigned by leadership.

Quality Improvement : Actively participates in the Hospital-wide Quality Improvement Program, actively supports and implements Department-specific Quality improvement initiatives and projects, recommends process improvement as appropriate, reports any quality issues in service delivery and consistently commits to a focus on quality improvement and organizational excellence.

Disaster Management: As an employee of Penobscot Valley Hospital, the position has an inherent role to care for our community members when in need. To this regard, the employee will be expected to participate in emergency/disaster preparedness planning and drills as requested. When called upon during a real life disaster/emergency event, the employee will be expected to participate in the Hospital’s response to this event, within the scope of professional and personal ability to do so. 

Requirements

Associates Degree or equivalent experience preferred.   One year of experience in healthcare or medical office setting with related duties.    Effective organizational skills and multi-tasking skills to manage a variety of tasks at once. Proficient in medical terminology and computer skills.
