HHM Talent is assisting a client searching for a Controller in Wilmington, NC.
Position Overview
This role will oversee the accounting function and support the company's finance, insurance, trust, and reserve operations. The ideal candidate will be a strong accountant with the ability to move quickly, lead a small team, understand financial controls, and work cross-functionally with accounting, compliance, claims, and sales support. Automotive accounting experience is highly preferred, but the company is open to a strong accounting leader from outside the industry.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee daily accounting operations, including AP, AR, bank reconciliations, taxes, and financial statement reporting
Manage finance, insurance, trust, and reserve-related accounting functions
Review and support contract rating to ensure reserves are properly backed
Monitor trust activity, reserves, earn-outs, and related financial obligations
Maintain strong financial controls and ensure accounting processes are accurate and timely
Lead and support a team of approximately six accounting and administrative employees
Oversee team members responsible for AP, cancellations, trust/rate analysis, and related administrative functions
Work closely with the President and provide clear financial reporting and operational insight
Partner with internal departments, including Accounting, Compliance, Claims, and Sales Support
Help improve accounting processes, reporting, and overall department efficiency
Work within Stone Eagle software, if applicable
Qualifications
Controller, Accounting Manager, or senior accounting leadership experience preferred
Automotive accounting experience highly preferred
Experience with finance and insurance products, trusts, reserves, or related warranty/service contract accounting is a strong plus
Strong understanding of financial controls, reconciliations, AP, AR, taxes, and financial reporting
Ability to lead, train, and support a small accounting team
Comfortable working directly with company leadership
Ability to work with multiple departments and communicate clearly across the business
Stone Eagle software experience is a plus, but not required
Strong attention to detail, urgency, and follow-through

Compensation and Benefits
Salary range: $85,000 to $110,000, depending on experience
Relocation assistance available
Medical insurance through BCBS after 90 days, employee-paid with dependents eligible to be added
