POSITION SUMMARY
The Financial Counselor at Borland Groover is a part of the Patient Access department. The general duty of this position is to provide cost estimations to patients for balances owed to the clinic/ASCs and to provide patients with an Estimate Worksheet for procedures.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Verify benefits and/or eligibility of patients that are scheduled to be seen.
- Take incoming calls from patients and answer benefits and/or financial responsibility questions.
- Make outgoing calls to patients to review financial estimates and/or balances for scheduled office appointments and/or procedures and testing.
- Email or mail financial estimates to patients as required or requested.
- Speak to patients about their account and balance, and schedule or reschedule appointments as needed.
- Make outgoing calls to insurance companies and check online to determine patient benefits and eligibility.
- Complete payment arrangements for patients when necessary.
- Make outgoing follow-up calls to patients making monthly payments.
- Adjust patient accounts by adding or updating insurances and /or billing the insurance company.
- Assist the satellite office personnel with insurance or financial estimation comprehension as needed.
- Answer nurse or patient portal inquiries assigned to the department.
- Requires access to Personal Health Information (PHI), HIPAA training is required, and HIPAA compliance is expected.
- Must follow the organization’s Code of Conduct
- Must participate in the Compliance Program Initiatives and reporting and Compliance Issues
- Handle all other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High School diploma/Equivalency required.
- Previous experience in collections preferred, but not necessary.
