Job Description - Financial Counselor (Full Time)

Newberry County, nestled less than an hour away from the Greenville, Spartanburg and Columbia urban areas, is in close proximity to the mountains and the beaches and is a progressive, largely rural area with a sense of history, a feeling of community, and the stability of deeply established roots.

Newberry's Patient Financial Services is looking for a full time Financial Counselor, who is responsible for providing patients with a positive financial experience by helping patients navigate and understand insurance benefits and potential financial liability. The Financial Counselor is the patient’s point of contact for financial assistance questions and is responsible for developing client relationships that will provide a “one touch” experience for uninsured and underinsured patients as they go through the financial process from clearance to claim adjudication. The Financial Counselor is the primary liaison between Newberry Health and account outsource vendors for Worker’s Compensation, VA Insurance Plans, Self-Pay Early-Out Accounts, Bad Debt Accounts and Medicaid Eligibility.

Requirements

 Education and Experience:

· Associate’s Degree or higher or High School Diploma and five (5) or more years of specific revenue cycle job-related experience preferred.

· Successful completion of basic medical terminology course work preferred.

· Proven knowledge of Microsoft products to include; Outlook, Excel and Word

· Prior experience with the Meditech BAR system.

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

· Displays exceptional customer service skills and the ability to engage patients, family members and team members respectfully, with empathy and cultural sensitivity.

· Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work while meeting multiple deadlines.

· Versatile and flexible, willing to work within constantly changing priorities.

· Demonstrated ability to train/mentor other team members.

· Exhibits effective and independent decision-making skills.

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:

· HFMA - Certified Revenue Cycle Representative (CRCR) OR, certification obtained within 6 months of hire.
