Financial Plan Design Consultant

Job Purpose:

As a Financial Plan Design Consultant, you will use specialized knowledge and skills obtained through experience, specialized training or certification to serve as a resource to Financial Advisors and their clients regarding overall financial planning issues. This may include portfolio design, retirement planning, qualified retirement plans, risk management, estate planning, education funding and business succession planning.

Target dates are to be communicated with each assigned task. If they are not, it is the responsibility of the assignee to obtain a target date for completion. Persons assigned such tasks will be accountable to report back as to the status of the tasks assigned.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Serve as a resource for Financial Advisors in designing a tailored financial analysis or comprehensive financial plan.
In conjunction with the Financial Advisor / Portfolio Manager, review portfolio design and recommendations
Evaluate overall individual and employer-based retirement needs; research options to provide planning alternatives
Research and provide recommendations related to risk management concerns, including insurance
Provide guidance on estate, business, retirement, asset protection, and legacy planning options and techniques
Review and summarize all current client legal documents such as wills, trusts, buy-sell agreements, etc.
Conduct research as needed related to assigned client cases; request guidance when necessary
Create planning alternatives using proprietary and third-party software packages
Prepare presentations that clearly communicate recommendations and alternatives related to client financial analysis and plan design
Coordinate planning recommendations with investment advisor and insurance department, and product providers
Follow up on the outcome of client meetings and planning opportunities
Oversee and train department administrative support
Assist in the training of PWA’s financial planning process with new advisors
Stay apprised of market trends, tax law changes, and planning opportunities and communicate to advisors at appropriate firm meetings
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Knowledge / Requirements

Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree or related professional certification a plus 5 + years’ experience in the financial, retirement, and estate planning or related field
Have or desire to acquire Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation.
Working knowledge or economic and accounting principles and practices, financial markets, investment and insurance-based products
Working knowledge of concepts and regulations related to financial planning as well as relevant technology, software planning tools and presentations
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite to producer presentations and maintain spreadsheets and databases

Job Skills

Skilled at follow-up to ensure tasks are completed and resolved

Convey information clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing
Produce effective correspondence, maintain spreadsheets, and incorporate client financial needs and goals into succinct and professional presentations outlining their options
Read and interpret technical and legal documents; apply the information as appropriate
Ability to work collaboratively as well as independently within a team environment
Ability to work with multiple type-A personalities to manage timelines and oversee the presentation material generation for highly sophisticated planning concepts
