Financial Reporting Manager Parker Towing Company, Inc., founded in 1940, is a leading barge line operator in the United States. The Financial Reporting Manager will assist in leading the accounting department, ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with regulatory requirements, and robust internal controls. This role is critical to supporting executive leadership with financial insights and contributing to strategic decision-making. Because Parker Towing Company and our 500-strong employee base are one of the largest barge lines in the United States, in addition to operating various terminals and industry-related businesses, the accounting department can see a wide variety of high-volume transactions.
Responsibilities and Duties: The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Assist in directing all aspects of accounting operations, A/R, A/P, GL, and Fixed Asset management
Ensure timely and accurate month-end and year-end close processes
Assist in preparing financial statements and management reports in accordance with GAAP
Manage budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis activities
Maintain and enhance internal controls and accounting policies
Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, and regulatory agencies
Oversee payroll operations for 500+ employees using a cloud-based payroll platform
Oversee the preparation and submission of 401(k) compliance reports and annual census data
Team with HR and TPA to ensure accuracy in 401(k) contribution remittances and participant data
Supervise and mentor accounting staff
Implement systems and process improvements to drive efficiency
Stay up to date with changes in accounting standards, tax laws, and benefit regulations
Reports directly to the Controller of the Company
Qualifications: As a relatively autonomous role, the qualifications, skills, and knowledge required are:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA preferred) from an accredited college or university
4+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role
Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting
Be able to perform duties in a multiple software platform environment with multiple EINs
Ability to multitask in a growing environment with specific deadlines
Experience in Outlook, Teams, Word, and strong Excel skills are required
Experience with cloud-based payroll systems and best practices; familiarity with multi-payroll environments preferred
Proficiency in accounting software systems is required; conversion and implementation experience preferred
Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
Experience in the Maritime or Transportation industry is an advantage
Experience with Microsoft Dynamics GP or Business Central is preferred
