The IMF Finance Department's Financial Sector Expert in the Safeguards Assessments Division (FINSA) is seeking a mid‑career professional with a front‑office or risk‑management background within central‑banking operations. The assignment focuses on safeguards assessments, which are high‑level due‑diligence reviews; the factsheet provides an overview of our work, which involves international travel. The appointee would work as part of a diverse team (central banking, auditing, accounting, legal, risk management). He or she would be expected to contribute by evaluating key operational areas such as foreign reserves management, domestic market operations, lender of last resort operations, risk management, and banking services.
Qualifications
The successful candidate should have educational development, including and/or supplemented by work experience, typically acquired through the completion of considerable graduate work in Economics, Finance, or a related field of study, or equivalent, is required; or, an advanced university degree in Economics, Finance, or a related field of study or equivalent, plus a minimum of four (4) years of relevant professional experience is required.
Knowledge of internal/external audit, financial reporting, or governance would be beneficial, though not essential. Strong English drafting and speaking skills are essential.
The position is based at the IMF headquarters in Washington, D.C., and, as mentioned, involves travel. The selected candidate would receive a 12‑month contract with the IMF. While extensions are possible under IMF rules, a potential extension beyond the initial year—currently not foreseen due to budget constraints—would require mutual agreement.
Contractual appointments at the IMF are renewable for up to four years of cumulative contractual service, pending incumbent's performance, budget availability and continuous business need.
