Job Description - Fine Arts Teacher -Art

Job Summary:  As an art teacher, your role is to introduce students to the cultural, historical, and technical aspects of the visual arts. You will be responsible for designing, planning, and implementing practical art lessons that align with the state curriculum (TEKS). This position fosters a creative learning environment that helps students build confidence and develop their artistic voice, critical thinking, and general communication skills.
Duties and Responsibilities:  
.
Create a welcoming, nurturing, and stimulating classroom environment appropriate for the intellectual and emotional development of students.



Develop and implement lesson plans that are aligned with the curriculum and the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS).



Design, plan, and deliver engaging visual arts instruction that integrates a variety of mediums and techniques.



Teach students foundational and advanced techniques in drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, and other forms of visual art.



Introduce students to significant artists, art movements, and cultural contributions in visual art from diverse global perspectives.



Foster students' appreciation for art history and the role of visual arts in society and across historical periods.



Help students understand the connection between art, culture, identity, and current events.



Teach students how to critique artwork constructively and analyze visual compositions effectively.



Instruct students on the proper care, handling, and storage of art tools and materials.



Design lessons that integrate traditional core subjects (e.g., math, history, literature) with visual art concepts.



Use assessment tools and objective measures to evaluate student progress in technical skill, creativity, and conceptual development.



Support the development of student art portfolios that showcase growth, creativity, and mastery over time.



Coordinate student participation in art exhibits, contests, and school displays to showcase their work.



Maintain regular communication with the principal and other leadership regarding student progress, classroom needs, curriculum development, and school initiatives.



Uphold the educator’s code of ethics and conduct yourself professionally, ethically, and responsibly at all times.



Comply with all school policies, procedures, and relevant state regulations for certified teachers.



Be willing to travel to multiple campuses if needed to deliver instruction.



Perform other duties as assigned.



Education:  Bachelor’s Degree from a four-year, accredited university required.  Must have some Dance experience. 
NCLB, highly qualified, valid Texas Teaching Certificate as required by teaching assignment or acceptance to approved Alternative Certification  Program, and results of TEXes exam preferred. 
Certification: EC-6 Generalist or Dance (any grades) -OR- enrolled in an Alternative Certification Program.




Work Experience: 
Previous experience working with elementary age students is preferred. 
Documented performance resume that includes at least 3 years of experience as a professional dancer  
Formal training in dance theory  
Formal training in the application of principles of dance


Competencies:
To perform the job successfully, and individual should demonstrate the following competencies to perform the essential functions of this position:


Knowledge of state and federal education laws and regulations.
Knowledge of subject matter to be taught and ability to lead discussions 
Skills in using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to  problems. 
Ability to implement Texas Education Agency (TEA) education policies and procedures.  
Ability to review and implement agency policies, procedures, and operating guidelines.  
Ability to convey and interpret information to students.  
Ability to communicate orally and in writing with students, parents, administrators, and other professionals involved in the education of  TRS students.  
Ability to work under stressful conditions, with possible occurrences of extreme heightened stress.  
Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.  
Ability to work collaboratively with all stakeholders and maintain a professional, courteous demeanor.  
Ability to keep accurate files and records.
Equipment Used: Microsoft Office, Eduphoria, Office equipment (e.g., computer, copier). General Knowledge of accounting procedures, district policies and school law.



Working/Environmental Conditions/Mental Demands/Physical Demands:
Work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment which does not subject the employee to any hazardous or unpleasant elements.  Ability to carry and/or lift less than 15 pounds.
