Job Summary:

We are seeking a Fire Alarm Staff Designer who has experience in technical design and project documentation. This role requires a team player with a passion for innovation, who is also a tireless learner, and capable of designing projects independently along with the support of their peers. 

Responsibilities:

Technical Design

Design

  • Performs basic design calculations under the direction of the Project Manager, Lead Engineer, and Engineer of Record. 
  • Follows processes and design direction established in MCE’s master design standards and production standards. 
  • Performs basic distribution layout and equipment sizing for commodity items. 
  • Completes the floor plan layouts for system distribution. 
  • Coordinates space and clearance requirements with other design partners. 
  • Completes equipment schedules for commodity items. 
  • Produces basic schematic diagrams such as plumbing isometrics and electrical risers. 
  • Develops an understanding of specifications and produces project specifications for commodity items. 
  • Develops an understanding of applicable codes and system requirements.

Construction Administration

  • Represents MCE in a professional manner at construction meetings. 
  • Accurately reviews contractor submittals for compliance with construction documents. 
  • Produces field observation reports that reflect construction progress and identify deficiencies that do not comply with the construction documents. 
  • Coordinates design changes needed with the design team when field conditions require a deviation from the construction documents. 
  • Uses the master tools and standards.
  • Provides guidance to the design team regarding clarifications and updates that would benefit MCE’s master design document.
  • Participate in technical and/or professional societies.

Project Documentation

  • Works under the direction of the Project Manager, Lead Engineer, and Engineer of Record to produce floor plans for schematic design documents. 
  • Develops floor plans from the schematic design level to the construction document level. 
  • Performs site visits and drafts existing conditions into design software. 
  • Develops and understanding of details and schematic diagrams. 
  • Maintains a well-organized workspace and electronic filing process.

Requirements

You Will Need to Have:

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in related field from an accredited university or college.
  • At least 2 years of related fire alarm system design or installation experience.

Physical Demands

The physical demands are representative of those that must be met by the employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the position. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential job functions.

  • Frequent periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Ability to walk long distances to review job site.
  • Occasionally ascend/descend a ladder at a job site.
  • Occasionally moving self in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments, including tight and constrained spaces.
  • Constantly communicating with others to exchange information 
  • Occasionally will review job sites that are noisy 
  • Occasionally will work in various weather conditions 

Dress Code 

  • Workwear appropriate for performing on site tasks 
  • Must wear PPE on job sites as required

Salary Range: $70,000 - $90,000 annually. 

Individual employee compensation is determined with a wide variety of factors, including but not limited to, experience, education, knowledge, skills, geography, and performance. Depending on the position offered, employee may be eligible for other forms of compensation, such as annual incentives.
