Fire Apparatus Mechanic (Fire EVT) – IKON Fire LLC

IKON Fire sells and services fire apparatus, including aerials, fire engines, water tenders, and more.

We are looking for an energetic, self-starting Emergency Vehicle Technician for our team. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a trusted, well respected, family-owned business that is continually expanding. 

If you want to work for a company that knows what it means to take care of people, then this might be the job for you! As an Emergency Vehicle Technician, you will be responsible for maintaining and repairing fire apparatus while keeping company goals and customer satisfaction in mind.

The Emergency Vehicle Technician may be required to perform work inside and outside, in all temperature and weather conditions. The position requires frequent sitting, standing, balancing, bending, or stooping for prolonged periods of time, manual dexterity, fine manipulation, and the ability to reach with hands and arms, and lift 70 pounds. Use of ladders and rolling staircases included in equipment to complete job duties.

Essential Skills:

• Ability to diagnose and repair 12/24 VDC electrical systems, fire/utility water pumps & valves, 4-wheel drive / PTO transfer cases, suspension components, hydraulic/air brake systems, differentials, motors, heating/air conditioning systems, instruments & gauges, and other medium/heavy duty truck systems or components.


• Strong mechanical aptitude.


• PTO, hydraulic or diesel generator repair.


• Other duties as assigned.


• We will train the right candidate.

Minimum Requirements:

• At least 5 years of experience in a diesel or heavy equipment maintenance shop.


• Existing Class A or B CDL with or without endorsements.


• Existing Fire EVT and/or Medium/Heavy Truck ASE certifications.


• Advanced knowledge of diesel engines, automatic transmissions, power take off’s, Drivelines.


• Must be able to lift 70 pounds.


• Valid Driver License with clean driving record to operate company vehicles.


• Ability to communicate with team members and customers in a professional manner.


• Must be able to climb ladders.


• Willingness to learn.


• Willingness to travel, both locally and nationally.


• Ability to obtain/maintain ASE, EVT and other certifications. With pay increase after qualification or with current certification(s).


• Ability to obtain/maintain Class B CDL with Tanker endorsement (Commercial Driver’s License). With pay increase after qualification or with current certification.


• Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical agility test, and background check.


• Candidate must be drug-free, able to contribute in a fast-paced/team atmosphere and pass a criminal background check.

Additional skills and experience considerations:

• Aircraft A&P or automotive experience with licenses/certifications/military experience.


• RV repair.


• Bus repair.


• Heavy Equipment repair.


• 120/240V system repair.

Compensation: $25.00 to $36.00/Hour DOE (quantity of CDL, EVT, ASE Certifications are considered)

Job Type: Full-time, Hourly, Non-Exempt, Monday-Friday 7:00am-3:30pm (6:00am-3:30pm and possible Saturday overtime)
