Minimum Qualifications

License Required:

Possession of

(1)

a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's License;

and

(2)

a valid California Paramedic license. Candidates with National Paramedic Certification (NPC) issued by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) must obtain a California Paramedic license prior to the start of the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District Fire Academy.

Education:

Possession of a high school diploma, G.E.D. equivalency or high school proficiency certificate.

Age:

At least 18 years of age on the date of application.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to meet such health standards as may be established by the County Medical Consultant.

Selection Process

1. Application Filing and Evaluation:

Applications will be evaluated to determine which candidates will move forward in the next phase of the recruitment process.

Required Documentation:

You must attach a copy of certificates/licenses listed below to your application by the closing date:

Valid California or out of state Motor Vehicle Operator's License.
Valid California Paramedic license or National Paramedic Certification (NPC) issued by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) .
Valid FCTC CPAT card issued between

January 1, 2024

and July 11, 2024 .
2. Assessments:

Candidates must pass the FCTC written test with a 70% or above. to visit the FCTC site to register. If you are already active on FCTC's list, your results must be valid through July 12, 2024.
Candidates must possess a valid Cal-JAC Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) issued by FCTC between

January 1, 2024

and July 11, 2024 . to visit the FCTC site to register. Our recruitment closes on July 4, 2024 but we are accepting CPAT cards until July 11, 2024. If your CPAT appointment falls between July 4, 2024 and July 11, 2024 please attach a screenshot of your appointment confirmation from FCTC to your application.
Candidates must be active on the FCTC Statewide Eligibility List (SEL). to find out the requirements to get on FCTC's SEL. If you are currently on the SEL, contact FCTC to confirm that you have renewed all the certificates and/or licenses required to remain active on their list.
The fee for the FCTC written test is $50.00 and the fee for the FCTC CPAT is $160.00. Individuals who demonstrate a financial hardship may apply for a grant through the California Fire Foundation. for more information about the financial hardship grant application process.
