Project FIND’s mission is to provide low- and moderate-income and homeless seniors with the services and support they need to enrich their lives and live independently. Today Project FIND operates three supportive housing residences that are home to about 600 people and four senior centers with over 3,000 members. Our members and residents range from the healthy and active to the frail and homebound to the homeless. Job Summary:

The First Cook will facilitate daily meal preparation, food service, coordinate general kitchen maintenance; and provide task management for kitchen aides.

Responsibilities:

• Prepares and cooks appealing, nutritious and tasty meals daily, according to a pre-planned menu.  


• Supervises food service and tray line service.


• Provides task management for Kitchen Aide duties.


• Provides oversight for volunteers assigned to meal service duties.


• Delegate and prepare weekly cleaning and meal prep schedules for the kitchen aides.


• Prepare and serve meals in accordance with the NYS Department of Health and NYC Aging.


• Collaborate with Program Director/Coordinator on special events which require special meal planning.


• Responsible for coordinating receipt and storage of food orders and monitoring of kitchen deliveries.


• Work cooperatively with the assigned food service manager to complete daily food used records.


• Contribute toward the development of older adult center menu planning.


• Provide staff support/coverage at sister sites as needed.


• Perform other relevant duties as assigned by the Food Service Manager.

Qualifications:

Required

• Associates degree and at least two years of experience as cook in a commercial setting (hospital, school, nursing home, etc.).


• Experience or interest in serving/ working with older adults in a community setting.


• NYS DOHMH Food Protection Certification.


• Ability to multi-task and work independently.

Preferred

• Supervisory experience is a plus.


• Knowledge of the NYC food standards requirements as well as NYS DOHMH food safety guidelines.


• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite programs.


• AED/CPR certified.

Schedule: Monday through Friday 9am - 5pm and ability to work Sunday 8am - 4pm when Food Service Manager is absent.

Project FIND participates in E-Verify, which confirms employment authorization through an electronic database maintained by the Social Security Administration and Department of Homeland Security. The E-Verify process is completed in conjunction with the Form I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification.  E-Verify is not used as a tool to pre-screen candidates.
