Job Description - Fitness Director

Position Summary:


The Fitness Director is responsible for overseeing the daily operations, staffing, programming, and budget management of a corporate fitness center. This role ensures a high-quality, engaging, and results-oriented fitness environment that supports employee health, well-being, and productivity. The Director supervises an Assistant Director and a team of hourly staff and serves as the primary liaison between the company and the corporate client.


 


In this highly visible leadership role, the Director is expected to represent the fitness center with professionalism and enthusiasm, align services with the company’s corporate wellness goals, and drive engagement through innovative programming and exceptional customer service.


 


Key Responsibilities:


Operations & Leadership



  • Lead the day-to-day operations of the corporate fitness center to ensure seamless service delivery.


 



  • Oversee facility maintenance, cleanliness, safety, and functionality, ensuring the highest standard of care.


 



  • Serve as the on-site contact for all client interactions and communications.


 



  • Communicate regularly with the Risher Operations Team and client representatives to report progress, updates, and key metrics.


 



  • Evaluate efficiency and make continuous improvements to operations, programming, and member services.


 


Staff Management



  • Supervise, develop, and coach the Assistant Fitness Director and hourly staff, fostering a strong team culture.


 



  • Coordinate staff schedules, sub coverage, and performance evaluations.


 



  • Lead hiring, onboarding, and training efforts in collaboration with the Risher Operations Team.


 



  • Fill in as needed for absent staff or instructors to ensure uninterrupted services.


 


Programming & Engagement



  • Design and implement engaging fitness programming tailored to a corporate population, including classes, challenges, and wellness initiatives.


 



  • Monitor and support the delivery of personal training, nutrition consultations, and group fitness.


 



  • Sub or instruct classes when necessary.


 



  • Develop and execute a marketing and engagement strategy across various communication channels (email, digital signage, etc.).


 



  • Track participation trends and member feedback to adjust programs accordingly.


 


Budget & Vendor Management



  • Develop and manage the annual fitness center budget, including forecasting, reporting, and cost controls.


 



  • Approve and track operational expenses and staffing allocations.


 



  • Oversee relationships with vendors and external service providers, ensuring service quality and contractual compliance.


 


Client Partnership



  • Represent the company and fitness center at corporate meetings, events, and wellness initiatives.


 



  • Collaborate with HR, Facilities, and Wellness Teams to align fitness programs with broader company goals.


 



  • Advocate for employee needs and champion wellness throughout the organization.


 


Qualifications:


Education:


Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Fitness Management, Kinesiology, or a related field required.


 


Current Personal Training Certification from a nationally accredited organization (e.g., NASM, ACSM, ACE).


 


CPR/AED and First Aid Certification required.


 


Experience:


Minimum 2–3 years experience in fitness center or wellness programming required.


 


At least 2 years in a supervisory or management role preferred.


 


Experience managing fitness facility operations in a corporate or commercial setting is a strong plus.


 


Skills & Competencies:


Strong leadership and team development abilities.


 


Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.


 


Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and capable of learning fitness scheduling/CRM software.


 


Ability to manage multiple priorities, adapt quickly, and think strategically.



Other Requirements:


Flexibility to work outside standard hours on occasion for events or coverage.


 


Physical ability to demonstrate exercises, lift equipment (up to 50 lbs), and support fitness activities.
