Summary
The Senior Fleet Engineer provides mechanical and technical knowledge of vehicles, including design, industry safety standards, performance, quality assurance, and vendor capabilities. You’ll serve as a point of contact for both internal and external stakeholders for Oncor Vehicles, support the Oncor Fleet Manager in creating the annual vehicle replacement plan, communicate with stakeholders on vehicle ordering processes, manage the bid evaluation process with upfit vendors to ensure the best value for the Oncor fleet, manage the process for final vehicle inspections to ensure vehicle quality before delivery of vehicles to internal Oncor customers, and be responsible for maintaining/updating the catalog of vehicle specifications, including design drawings and technical schematics. Additionally, you’ll foster strong partnerships with chassis manufacturers and upfitter suppliers (for example, aerial equipment and service bodies).
Key Roles & Responsibilities
Incorporate safety into daily work ethic.
Coordinates execution of the Oncor Vehicle replacement plan from order to delivery to vehicle invoicing.
Works closely with internal stakeholders to develop replacement strategies and innovative equipment solutions.
Participates in bid evaluations and project teams, and ensures the best fit with vendor designs and selected revisions.
Performs inspections at vendor locations to verify acceptance of vehicles by orders, written estimates, and specifications.
Monitor the quality and performance of suppliers (for example, equipment upfitters and chassis manufacturers).
Maintain market intelligence regarding equipment/vehicle cost, safety features, and service performance upgrades.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Department of Transportation (DOT) and local State requirements for licensing and registration.
Provides technical expertise, consultation, documentation, and support regarding vehicle accident investigations.
Develops and provides reports to support monitoring and analysis of supplier performance.
May provide training and instruction to other Fleet Department or internal employees.
Performs all essential aspects and functions of the job, as well as any other ad-hoc requirements.
Skills
General business knowledge, excellent written and oral communication with internal and external stakeholders.
Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (including Excel) and SharePoint skills.
Ability to work with and manage confidential information, problem solve, time management, conflict resolution, ability to multitask, and work in a team environment.
Comfortable with working in various weather conditions (heat and cold) when inspecting vehicles.
Physical capabilities to ascend and descend vehicles during inspection processes.
Education & Experience
High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent is required; bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience is encouraged to apply.
3 or more years of experience in the Utility Industry, Fleet Operations/Management, or another technically related discipline is required.
