Nature of Work

Under general direction, Fleet mechanic is responsible for performing maintenance and repair on all BSU vehicles, trailers, and CNG compressors. This position ensures the reliability and safety of the BSU fleet by conducting inspections, troubleshooting mechanical issues, and performing necessary repairs to a variety of vehicles, apparatus, machinery, motors and other related equipment. Fleet mechanic is expected to exercise judgment in accordance with well-defined policies and procedures.

• Perform detailed preventive maintenance according to assigned schedules, i.e., changing oil, tires, transmission fluid, tune ups, etc.
• Maintain and repair the compressed natural gas fueling stations.
• Tests vehicles and equipment to ascertain repair effectiveness.
• Responds to road emergencies and performs any necessary repairs in the field.
• Assist with coordination of services with repair facilities.
• Perform various record maintenance duties, i.e., work descriptions, parts, and supplies per work order.
• Diagnose drivability, electrical, mechanical, transmission, hydraulic, and pneumatic problems, steering, and suspension, brake, HVAC, and CNG systems
• Read, comprehend, and apply technical service manuals.
• Maintain current knowledge of new technologies.
• Complete CMMS work orders with pertinent information.
• Assist other division personnel as directed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Troubleshooting and diagnosis of defects, malfunctioning, and inefficiency in automotive equipment.

• Organizing and prioritizing.
• CMMS software to prepare and maintain accurate records on maintenance and parts inventory.
• Read and comprehend a variety of technical materials relevant to automotive and mechanical repair and technology.
• Read and interpret mechanical drawings and automotive diagrams.
• Review work for efficient results and accuracy.
• Select appropriate methods of repair, and exercise efficient use of resources.
• Inspect items for proper length, width, depth, and shape, and visually read various types of information.
• Perform duties in accordance with standard operating procedures.
• Clearly communicate and understand information, both orally and in writing.
• Establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with both internal and external contacts.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Minimum five (5) years of automotive mechanic experience in gas, diesel, and equipment service and repair.
• Florida driver’s license. Minimum CDL B is preferred, or the ability to obtain within 1 year.
• Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) or equivalent certification preferred.
• CNG Safety/Inspection license or ability to obtain within 1 year.
