Job Description - Fleet Mechanic


A paving fleet mechanic primarily diagnoses, repairs, and maintains asphalt paving equipment, ensuring smooth operation and safety on job sites. This includes working on paving machines, asphalt rollers, and other related heavy machinery. Additionally, they might handle routine maintenance tasks and potentially assist in equipment cleanup. 



Key Responsibilities of a Paving Fleet Mechanic:





  • Diagnosis and Repair: Identifying and fixing mechanical issues on paving equipment, including engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and other components. 


  • Maintenance: Performing routine maintenance tasks like oil changes, fluid level checks, and tire rotations. 


  • Equipment Operation: Potentially operating or assisting with the operation of various paving equipment. 


  • Record Keeping: Maintaining records of repairs and maintenance performed. 


  • Communication: Communicating with fleet managers and other personnel about equipment issues and repairs. 


  • Safety: Adhering to safety procedures and regulations while working on and around heavy equipment. 


  • Travel: Potentially traveling to remote job sites to make repairs. 


  • Welding: May be required to perform welding tasks. 


  • Scope of Work: Creating detailed scopes of work for repairs and maintenance. 


  • On-call Availability: Potentially being available for on-call status to handle emergency repairs.
