Job Description - Fleet Mechanic

30% of the Job: Perform Routine Maintenance



  • Ensure that all vehicles and equipment in the fleet are operating efficiently and safely by conducting regular inspections and preventive maintenance.

  • This includes oil changes, tire rotations, brake inspections, and the replacement of worn or damaged parts.


40% of the Job: Troubleshoot and Repair



  • Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues in vehicles and perform necessary repairs to engines, transmissions, suspension systems, and electrical systems.

  • This role requires an in-depth knowledge of automotive systems and the ability to efficiently resolve issues to minimize downtime.

  • This includes both diesel and small engine repair.


10% of the Job: Regulatory Compliance, Record Keeping, and Reporting



  • Ensure all vehicles meet local, state, and federal regulations for safety and maintenance. Regularly conduct Virginia state inspections.

  • Accurately log all maintenance and repair activities and maintain inventory records of parts and supplies.

  • The ability to compile and present reports on the fleet’s maintenance status and any issues is crucial for planning and budgeting purposes.


10% of the Job: Parts Inventory Management



  • Oversee parts and tools inventory, ensuring necessary supplies are always available. Monitor inventory levels and reorder as necessary.


10% of the Job: Billing and Receiving Payments



  • Create detailed invoices for work performed, process payments, and maintain organized transaction records. 


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS


Education: High School Diploma or GED. Associate’s degree or certification in automotive technology preferred.


Work Experience: 2-5 years automotive experience


Required Licenses: Virginia State Inspection License


Technical Competencies: 



  • Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds
