Job Description - Flight Safety Analyst

Corvid Technologies seeks qualified candidates to join our Range Safety Group. Range safety requires the management of risks from a variety of hazards, including malfunctioning rocket components, falling debris with potentially high-energy and explosive impacts. This work integrates flight dynamics, probability and statistics, debris modeling, software development, and operational safety processes to protect the public, mission-essential personnel, and critical assets during missile launch and test operations.

The candidate for this position will bring experience conducting risk analysis with the potential to add a senior level candidate that mentors staff and work directly with program managers and customer stakeholders. Candidate will use experience to independently manage workload, validate results, integrate multiple studies into a comprehensive analysis, and articulate methodology and key takeaways to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze nominal and off-nominal vehicle trajectories and predict debris impacts resulting from missile malfunction and flight termination actions

  • Model vehicle breakup debris, including ballistic and lifting aerodynamic fragments

  • Quantify how relevant components of launch systems affect vehicle failure modes and responses, failure probabilities and mission-specific assumptions

  • Perform probabilistic risk analyses to determine statistical debris impact risk to the public and mission-essential personnel

  • Develop and validate flight safety risk mitigation products such as flight termination limit lines, hazard and caution areas, predicted impact areas, and mission execution rules

  • For senior candidates, help define analysis approaches, review technical products, mentor analysts, manage and communicate complex flight safety methods and special studies

Qualifications:

  • Candidate must be a U.S. Citizen and be able to obtain (and maintain) a Secret Clearance

  • Bachelor's Degree in Aerospace Engineering (or similar STEM discipline) and at least 5 years of relevant range safety experience (Senior candidates will be considered as well)

  • Demonstrated proficiency with probability and statistics, data processing, and data analysis using standard software, such as Python and MATLAB, on large data sets

  • Strong communication skills, sound engineering judgment, and a drive for continued learning in a multidisciplinary mission-focused environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with flight safety, range safety, debris risk analysis, launch and missile test operations, or similar mission assurance work

  • Familiarity with Range Commanders Council (RCC) standards such as RCC 321 and RCC 319

  • Proficiency with Linux shell commands, scripting, and high-performance computing workflows

  • Proficiency with trajectory analysis tools such as TAOS or similar and knowledge of C++, Fortran, and other compiled languages used in scientific and engineering applications

  • Familiarity with automated flight safety systems, including use of Core Autonomous Safety Software (CASS), is a plus
