Job Summary
We are seeking experienced Float Registered Nurses for 13-week travel assignments in Fort Defiance, Arizona.
This is a highly flexible, multi-unit nursing role requiring strong recent experience in all three of the following areas: Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Emergency Department (ED), and Medical-Surgical/Pediatric nursing.
The RN will report to the House Supervisor for daily unit assignment and may be placed in ICU, ED, Med-Surg, or an appropriate pediatric care area based on patient census and staffing needs.
Candidates must have at least 3 years of nursing experience with demonstrated competency across all required specialties. Strong adaptability, critical thinking, and the ability to transition quickly between different acuity levels are essential.
Key Responsibilities
· Provide direct nursing care in ICU, Emergency Department, Medical-Surgical, and applicable pediatric settings.
· Report to the House Supervisor for daily unit assignment.
· Adapt quickly to varying patient populations, acuity levels, and departmental workflows.
· Perform comprehensive patient assessments and ongoing reassessments.
· Recognize changes in patient condition and initiate appropriate interventions.
· Provide care to critically ill and high-acuity ICU patients.
· Triage and stabilize patients presenting to the Emergency Department.
· Provide comprehensive Medical-Surgical nursing care.
· Care for pediatric patients within demonstrated competency.
· Administer medications, IV therapies, blood products, and other ordered treatments.
· Monitor cardiac rhythms, vital signs, respiratory status, neurological status, and clinical changes.
· Manage patients requiring advanced monitoring and critical-care interventions within RN scope.
· Provide moderate sedation nursing support according to facility policy and demonstrated competency.
· Assist physicians during emergency and bedside procedures.
· Participate in rapid response, trauma, and code situations.
· Provide patient and family education.
· Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation.
· Participate in clinical handoffs and interdisciplinary communication.
· Follow infection-control, patient-safety, and regulatory standards.
Required Experience
Candidates must have:
· Minimum 3 years of RN experience
· Recent experience in all three required specialty areas:
o Intensive Care / Critical Care
o Emergency Department
o Medical-Surgical nursing
· Pediatric nursing experience as required for applicable assignments
· Strong critical-care assessment skills
· Emergency nursing experience
· Ability to independently manage Medical-Surgical patients
· Ability to transition between high-acuity and general acute-care environments
· Strong clinical judgment and prioritization skills
Candidates must have experience in ICU, ED, and Med-Surg. Experience in only one or two of these specialties will not meet the core requirement of this position.
Required Certifications
Candidates must have:
· American Heart Association BLS
· ACLS – Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support
· PALS – Pediatric Advanced Life Support
· TNCC – Trauma Nursing Core Course
· Moderate Sedation certification or documented competency as required by the facility
All required certifications must remain current throughout the assignment.

Key Med-Surg / Pediatric Skills
Candidates should be comfortable with:
· Comprehensive Medical-Surgical assessment
· Medication administration
· IV therapy
· Postoperative care
· Patient education
· Pediatric assessment as appropriate
· Discharge planning
· Care coordination
· Managing multiple patients and competing priorities
Float Requirements
This is a true float-pool assignment.
Candidates must be willing to:
· Report daily to the House Supervisor
· Accept assignment based on hospital staffing needs
· Float between ICU, ED, Med-Surg, and applicable pediatric areas
· Adjust quickly to changing unit assignments
· Work within demonstrated competencies and professional scope of practice
Flexibility is a major requirement for this assignment.
Schedule Requirements
· Approximately 36 hours per week
· 8–12 hour shifts
· Day and night shift flexibility may be required
· Candidates must be willing to work other shifts when needed
· Weekend coverage may be required
· Holiday coverage may be required
· Exact scheduling will depend on staffing and patient-care needs
