Job Description - Fluid Power Technician

We are seeking a skilled, detail-oriented Fluid Power Technician to join our team. You will be responsible for assembling, repairing, testing, and maintaining hydraulic HPUs, pumps, and related components, as well as assembling, crimping, and testing flexible hose assemblies in accordance with engineering specifications and safety standards. The ideal candidate has hands-on hydraulic experience, strong mechanical aptitude, and a commitment to quality and safety.

Job Description

  • Interpret hydraulic schematics, mechanical drawings, and bills of materials.
  • Assemble air- and electric-operated hydraulic power units, including reservoirs, pumps, valves, gauges, hoses, and filtration components.
  • Set up and operate manual or CNC tube bending machines; select proper tooling and ensure bends meet tolerances.
  • Assemble hose fittings and components using crimping machines, cutters, and other tools.
  • Disassemble, clean, inspect, and repair hydraulic HPUs and pumps.
  • Diagnose issues and perform component rebuilds to manufacturer specifications.
  • Replace or refurbish defective parts such as seals, valves, and bearings.
  • Conduct system pressure and leak testing.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and follow safety protocols.
  • Collaborate with engineering and sales on custom builds.

  • High school diploma or GED required; vocational/technical training preferred.
  • 2–5 years of hydraulic systems, hose assembly, or mechanical assembly experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with air-operated (Haskel, Maximator, Hydratron) and electric-operated (Oilgear, Gardner Denver, Dynex) HPUs/pumps.
  • Knowledge of MP & HP Cone and Thread, JIC, DIN, SAE, Twin Ferrule Compression fittings.
  • Experience with hydrostatic and pressure decay testing.
  • Proficiency with calipers, tape measures, gauges, and hand/power tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
  • Forklift and overhead crane experience a plus.
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
