Job Summary: The Focus Communities Coordinator is responsible for oversight of community engagement with our focus area neighborhoods, building partnerships with other community-based coalitions and organizations working within our current and future focus neighborhoods, and assisting the Government Affairs Strategist in local policy research, grass-roots advocacy development and efforts.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist with development and maintenance of strategic partnerships with community leaders in coordination with Habitat’s Government Affairs Strategist.
Conduct and plan listening sessions with new communities that Habitat KC works or seeks to work within.
Strengthen community relationships by working alongside residents in Habitat KC’s neighborhood revitalization areas.
Lead power network mapping initiative looking for strengths in Habitat KC’s networks to advance advocacy efforts.
Coordinate and co-develop an advocacy committee with Government Affairs Strategist.
Utilize research and knowledge of the Kansas City area to understand the social determinants and provide practical suggestions for strategies to help combat and address housing barriers and issues aligned with Habitat KC’s policy work and mission.
Coordinate with Government Affairs Strategist to develop advocacy tools, resources and opportunities to support housing policy and Habitat KC’s goals.
Represent Habitat KC at outreach activities to drive public awareness to advocacy objectives.
Other duties as assigned.
Salary range for this position is $60,000 - $65,000 a year.
Requirements
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent work experience.
A minimum of 2 years’ experience in the field of nonprofit, public or community development sector with experience in housing poli
cy, homeownership, or consumer protection preferred.
Experience with program/s focused on meeting the needs of people of color and diverse groups.
Strong project management skills and able to manage multiple strands of work towards an overall objective.
Superior oral and written communication
Ability to build strong relationships through respect and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
Experience working with Microsoft Office and design software to assist with marketing creation.
