Position Summary

The Food & Beverage Supervisor will be responsible for overseeing service in the Food & Beverage Outlets. The candidate will be responsible for assisting managers with training, motivating, coaching the staff, monitoring expenses and controlling labor costs. The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, approachable and efficient while ensuring that the needs of hotel guests and employees are met.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure work areas are properly stocked, clean and tidy; maintain cleanliness, and a nice presentation of all menus and tables
  • Assure all food orders are delivered on time; make sure all food is up to the highest quality
  • Handle guest complaints or special requests and communicate these with managers as necessary; prepare the oncoming shift by communicating effectively with all staff members
  • Support and hold pre-shift meetings daily to promote exceptional service
  • 75% of time will be on the floor ensuring operation is running smoothly and 25% will be devoted to administrative tasks, as needed by the Food & Beverage department
  • Oversee the proper settlement of checks
  • Approach all encounters with guests and employees in an attentive, friendly, courteous and service-oriented manner
  • Comply at all times with the hotel’s safety standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient hotel operations
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Basic knowledge of Opera or Micros preferred
  • Ability to work under pressure and with minimal supervision while meeting all deadlines
  • Able to evaluate and select among alternative courses of action quickly and accurately
  • Display orientation to profitability and align work with strategic goals. Develop and implement cost saving measures, conserve organizational resources and works within approved budget.
  • Ability to build morale and group commitments to goals and objectives. Support everyone's efforts to succeed, implements and maintains all policies and procedures.
  • Exercise sound and accurate judgment with regards to decision making in a timely matter.
  • Prioritize and plans work effectively and efficiently.
  • Observe and implement all safety and security procedures.
  • Ability to meet deadlines with frequent change delays and unexpected events.

Education and Work Experience

High School Diploma or equivalent

At least 2 years of progressive supervisory experience in hotel/catering or a related field required

Previous hospitality industry experience preferred

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations

California Food Handler Card

California Responsible Beverage Service Certification

Language Skills

Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups, managers, clients, customers, guests and the general public. Able to verbally communicate effectively with all levels of employees and guests while maintaining a calm and professional demeanor. Knowledge of a second language a plus.

Reasoning Ability and Computer Skills

Ability to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
