Job Description - Food Rx Specialist


PRIMARY PURPOSE: The Food Rx Specialist is responsible for managing partner accounts and coordinating logistics for Food Rx Program sites across our service area. This position serves as a key liaison between the healthcare partners and the North Texas Food Bank, providing direct program support through training, resource development, and exceptional customer service.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in social services, public health or related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience

Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: 

  • Organized, self-directed and able to multitask
  • Strong interpersonal skills including collaboration, tact, diplomacy, and flexibility to work effectively with internal and external customers
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail, able to make independent decisions and problem-solving aptitude
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications; working knowledge of Customer Relationship Management (CRM) platform preferred
  • Ability to create reports and provide data insights/analytics 
  • Knowledge of food banking or food shelf systems a plus
  • Adept at providing high-quality training to a diverse audience 

Experience: 

  • Two years of related work and demonstrated success developing partnerships

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Manage relationships with healthcare partners to implement Food Rx building blocks throughout our 12-county service area.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for healthcare partners, providing consistent communication and troubleshooting support
  • Ensure that healthcare programs are functioning properly and in compliance with Feeding America standards.
  • Conduct site visits to existing and new Food Rx program sites 
  • Develop and maintain training materials and resources for healthcare partners 
  • Assist in identifying and conducting outreach to potential new healthcare partners
  • Develop and maintain program benchmarks, track and report on key data and metrics, and support annual evaluation to assess program impact and inform continuous improvement 
  • Identify opportunities to expand healthcare partners by developing food pharmacies within the local food pantry network equipped with Nudge strategy

MENTAL DEMANDS: 

  • The person in this position needs to adapt well in the face of work stressors, such as customer complaints, compliance offenses, and competing priorities of reasonable or high significance to the successful function of the unit 
  • Must be able to effectively interpret data and make decisions that will have a significant impact on the team and organization 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger; handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop; kneel, crouch or crawl; talk, hear.  
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth vision, and the ability to adjust focus. 
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: 

  • Moderate noise (i.e. business office with open floor plan with computers, phone, and printers, light traffic).
  • Reliable transportation and a valid DL and insurance is required for travel within our 12-county service area.
