Job Description - Food Safety Specialist (2nd Shift)

Description

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direction of the QA Manager, the Food Safety Specialist is responsible for oversight of the SQF system, management of products covered under APC Manufacturing’s HACCP plans, and working with a team of Quality Assurance Technicians. Works to develop the necessary tools for training, troubleshooting, problem elimination and streamlining processes within the plant.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

This list of duties and responsibilities is not all-inclusive and may need to be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary.

  • Performs internal audits of systems, including, but not limited to, SQF, HACCP, Holds, Sanitation, and GMPs 
  • Performs quarterly mock recalls
  • Monitors and evaluates services provided by third party contractors, such as pest control and scale services.
  • Works to ensure all business standards, demands, and any regulatory (local, state, and/or federal) regulations and/or guidelines are followed.
  • Reviews all documentation associated with food safety and quality programs.
  • Assists with investigating customer complaints and conveying information to the operations personnel to drive process improvements.
  • Investigates and corrects quality and food safety issues by identifying and resolving the root cause of issues, in collaboration with other departments.
  • Trains employees with relevant food safety and quality rules and regulations based on inspection findings.
  • Organizes records and files.
  • Ensures that all product handling is compliant with GMPs and SSOPs.
  • Other responsibilities as delegated by QA Manager

Requirements

  • High School Diploma is required; Prefer a bachelor’s degree in microbiology, food science, chemistry, or related field, or PCQI, HACCP, SQF, etc. certified. 
  • Food Safety Specialist must be coachable, detail oriented, and a strong communicator. 
  • Excellent record keeping and documentation skills are required. 
  • Proficiency in the MS and Google Suite of products is required. 
  • Bilingual (English-Spanish) preferred. 

Physical and Environmental Working Conditions:

The work environment for this role includes both office work and plant floor work. The conditions in the office will include time using the phone and the computer while sitting. The plant floor environment will expose this individual to regularly moving mechanical parts and forklifts. The environment is ventilated, air conditioned, damp, and with vibrations. Employees are required to wear the following protective equipment: hair/beard net, steel toed boots (or equivalent), and eye wear. Hearing protection is optional.
