EXPANDING POSSIBILITIES.Easterseals Early Learning Center- Hickory Hills provides inclusive early childhood and education services for children between the ages of six weeks to five years of age. The Center is a part of Easterseals broader programming in Head Start/Early Head Start. Easterseals Head Start/Early Head Start provides high-quality, family-centered education for children from birth to five years old. We collaborate with 40+ early childhood programs located in the city of Chicago and suburban Cook County to promote school readiness in young children of all abilities from families with incomes below poverty guidelines. In addition to the Hickory Hills location, Easterseals also directly operates the Gilchrist Marchman Child Development Center in Chicago.
The Food Service Manager is responsible for the daily preparation, seasoning, and serving of breakfast, lunch, and snacks in accordance with established recipes. This role involves using a variety of kitchen equipment and utensils, as well as cleaning all items used in food preparation. Additional responsibilities include maintaining inventory of food and kitchen supplies, purchasing necessary items, and preparing reports required by funding sources, such as menu postings and meal participation records. The Food Service Manager must also have a working knowledge of the goals and objectives outlined in the Easterseals Mission Statement.
This position is located at Easterseals Early Learning Center- Hickory Hills at 8020 W. 87th St., Hickory Hills, IL 60457.
MAJOR FUNCTIONS/ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Prepares nourishing, appetizing and well-balanced meals as required by USDS/CACFP and Head Start/State of Illinois standards. Reviews all menu changes with Center Nurses, Nutritionist and/or Site Supervisor by same prior to implementation.
Accepts, closely scrutinizes, records, monitors and serves meals provided by contractual catering service, this includes maintaining daily temperature logs and controls as per Illinois Health Department Standards.
Ensures that special diets are reviewed, planned for in advance of service, prepared and served.
Completes monthly food orders, including all catering orders.
Maintains all safety and sanitation standards in preparing, storing, and serving of all foods, according with licensing requirements and Easterseals procedures.
Post required health and food regulations and maintains required USDA daily meal planning records.
Maintains current food inventory, date items and rotates before placing on shelves when received from vendor. Requests all food items necessary for nutritious meal preparation in conjunction with Management.
Properly cleans/disinfects kitchen, cooking equipment, utensils, pots, dishes, refrigerators, ranges, and freezers used in the preparation, and serving of meals on a daily basis.
Participates as requested in special center activities, such as those with and for parents which may require attendance in the evenings or weekend. Coordinates with Teacher, to plan nutrition related classroom activities.
Provides adequate training to food service assistant and volunteer kitchen staff. Shows interest in furthering professional growth by attending staff meetings, workshops, trainings, and seminars.
All other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Education/Certification:
High school diploma or higher.
State Food Sanitation certificate.
Experience Required:
2 years’ work experience.
Working knowledge of Head Start Performance Standards, HHS regulations, federal, state, and local child development requirements.
Skills/Abilities:
Experience in policy and procedure development.
Ability to plan meals.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Experience in risk management.
Ability to learn new tasks quickly.
Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines.
